best anyone can tell, they haven't even really started pilot plant manufacturing and sorting out the looming yield / scalability issues which could take years more

It seems like their strategy is more like this: 1) survive the EV transition, because some people will keep buying gas cars for various reasons for a long time. 2) once the market is mature, gradually grind away and win the top slot... like they did with gas cars.

Its a Panasonic battery. Any advancements will be sold to everyone. They also make some of the tesla batteries .
