I endorse Sunkara/Harrington Thought and think this is no way to do politics — gotta pick some stuff about your country to be proud of and run with it, there’s plenty to work with. It’s interesting that independents are closer to Democrats though.

I’ve said this often, and there are exceptions: The right loves the USA despite its flaws. The left sees the USA as a flawed country. Interesting that the numbers have continued to decline on both sides.

The graph is a bit manipulative. The usual practice is to put together "extremely" (category 1) with "very" (category 2)

The first step to fixing things is recognizing that there's a problem. I see this as potentially useful, in that we are really starting to understand our shortfalls. We just need to direct this towards action rather than nihilism
