China's current population decline is being driven by the legacy of the One-Child Policy and the fertility declines of 40 years ago.
But just in the last 7 years, China's number of annual births has fallen by half.

Keep in mind, some of this is just a function of fewer young people. China's young population decreased by a lot since 2010, due to that fertility drop 40 years ago.
Population decline is beneficial, especially in countries that are already overcrowded like China.
They say China plays t"long game" on matters of policy. This is an example of related success. In the meantime it doesn't have to worry the way mature western nations do from decline, as it is still elevating under utilized "peasant" types to middle class & is outsourcing too.

Cost of living has gone up quickly & wages not keeping track I would guess. China rushed to become western GDP & hit exactly the same roadblocks
I believe I have seen Capitalism Big Long Term Problem and over time/generations the system reinforces more work and careerism at the cost of family formation and larger families.
