When I was in practice, a senior partner in the tax department said, basically, that farmers always win. They're subsidized through the tax law. They're subsidized directly. Because we have this mythos of the yeoman farmer. 1/

The thing is, , farmers attend college at nearly the same rate as the average American. And I don't understand why you seem to think they're stupid and/or undereducated. 2/2

That isn't exactly true across the board though, is it? Doesn't that apply to big corporate type farming and not to small family farms?
The argument I heard growing up in the 80s was that farmer subsidies were a strategic food supply buffer by the govt. to prevent famine. The math has never felt quite right on that.
My family lost their dairy farm during the Great Depression. Why should I subsidize wealthy corporate farmers with my tax dollars?
This is true now only for corporate farming conglomerates, because that's all there is. My family were small, independent farmers and got undercut out of the business. Thanks, Reagan.
