Think the Chinese are in the "build confidence in their society so they can inherit the world" part of the movie. We're in the "demoralize/disenchant so decline can be managed and power retained" part.

Here's a data point My sister (1.5 years older) and I were both homeschooled from grades 1-12 for religious reasons My mom did not "make" us learn anything. She barely graduated high school herself, giving birth to my sister at 18 We had fundamentally different experiences

I know homeschool parents who spend less than three hours a day “doing school” and their kids test several grades above age level. The kids spend their time building forts, climbing trees, digging holes, helping out around the house, and reading books for fun.
