What’s beneficial about monarchy is that it leads to parliamentary government whereas republics often opt for presidentialism. But you can certainly have a parliamentary republic.

It's more difficult (though clearly not impossible) to keep an elected head of state as a figurehead because they have inherent legitimacy. The ridiculous premise of hereditary succession is a useful part of the system.
