SCOTUS did the Democratic party a huge favor yesterday when they jettisoned racial preferences in college admissions. Now the Dems don't have to defend a position unpopular even among its usual beneficiaries.
It's really disappointing to see Asian-Americans not even listed in this poll, given that they were the ones facing substantial racial discrimination in Harvard's admissions practices.
Wild that the US is spending like a quarter of a Trillion dollars to subsidize domestic semiconductor production, China is spending like $150B, the EU is mobilizing like €43B, and the UK is striking back with...£1B
Brief midyear movie-biz thread: It is hard to overstate the degree to which Hollywood is now looking to three movies--Mission: Impossible 7, Barbie, and Oppenheimer--not only to succeed, but to solve industry problems that no three films can solve. 1/
It is absolutely incredible that nobody in the Democratic Party ever says "ya know, maybe the universities are partially to blame for student loan costs since they're the ones charging $100,000 for a creative writing MFA at Columbia"
I met a dude yesterday who's almost 40 and has never had a job in his entire life. I feel like LA is one of maybe a handful of cities on planet Earth where you could meet a person like that.
Owyn fingered his backpack nervously. If Jarrid discovered that he Shined, he would tell the Conclave and they would challenge his residency. That might keep him from going to IU Bloomington in the fall — all because of where he lived!
a classic NIMBY move: when an actual developer shows strong intent to build a particular level of density, spend ten mins mocking up an alternative with fewer units, brag about how "amazing green gentle density with 50% affordable units" it is, even though it would never pencil

Looks like David Sacks is keeping 10,000 little boys locked up in his basement. Hard to get accurate figures but it’s what I’m hearing. Not good. Open to being corrected on this.

It's difficult to overstate the damage this ad is causing Ron DeSantis right now. His team is frantically working the phones as @GOP groups like LCR condemn DeSantis as a raging homophobe. What a massive, inexplicable misfire. twitter.com/DeSantisWarRoo…
the groyper/GOP junior staffer crossover is doing them real damage because groypers are horrible people who don't know how to talk to regular human beings

Wait, did you not know that there’s a disappointingly high number of toxic women in academia?
the good thing is that saudi royalty are super chill when they invest billions of dollars in a culturally important soft power institution and you blow it all up in less than a year and become an international laughing stock. they take it super well
