Democrats are generously about a third of the public. Among Democrats, about half would describe themselves as 'moderate' or 'conservative'. Note that progressive or socialist are not even options. Elites are really bad at realizing how far left they are compared to the public.

Really what's happening here is that David is status-signaling to other leftists. He gets no points for pointing out Donald Trump or Kevin McCarthy are bad (even liberals can do that!). To signal how pure he is, he must attack the center-left as also evil.
