Sure but there is a limit to the reduction in rental rates by increasing supply based on cost to build, and fixed costs (maintenance, taxes etc). A some point it is not feasible to build a unit if the rental rates fall below a certain level. Supply limits itself unless building

But isn't the key whether rents were affordable. Both cities have had comparable rent to income ratios since 2010. Both saw rent to income increase from low 30% to near 60%
Is that sustainable in the long term? It’s so strange to me to be mono-maniacal about land clearing and development - rents being cheap doesn’t make clean water or clean air, and you need massive investments in transit alongside this for it to work
