At this point in time, if there is any way to keep American manufacturing in American hands, that is one less leverage taken away from a foreign power in some future, unforeseen situation. If it is financially not feasible, then we have to consider options. But if at all

Usually I’m against government interference in markets, but steel is a national security need. Credit where credit is due, Joe Biden staffers.
This is where his cognitive decline really shows. Stubborn in spite of all reason. And now we have another president on the way ftoward downslope in cognition. At the worst possible time.
should consider the idea of a reverse acquisition. Let US Steel acquire 100% of Nippon Steel using 100% stock. The shareholders of Nippon would be the majority shareholders of the company and then they could decide to do a share repurchase program if they wanted to

I don’t understand the opposition to Nippon Steel purchase. Does Biden think they are going to shut down a steel plant and ship it to Japan? Trump is praising foreign investment offering a lower 15% tax rate. Nippon promised an increase in capital spending. Come Monday and US

President Dementia thought they were trying to get him to reduce his ice cream consumption. Our great ally gets screwed as well as American workers.
For every one struggling to read this + WaPo paywall, i'll simplify: Biden ignored his advisors and blocked the sale of US Steel to Japanese company Nippon.

My god that’s a poor reflection of today’s politics. «He consistently said he would, but we just wanted votes.» “Biden had long said he opposed the purchase of U.S. Steel… But with the election over… some aides thought there might be a slim chance to persuade Biden to relent”
People need to look deeper into this deal and into Nippon … Nippon has deep, deep ties to the Chinese “government” and had a direct hand in the creation of China’s Baowu Steel Group’s creation. Japan has looked the other way on Nippon for too long.
he genuinely does not have the capacity to make such decisions it is ludicrous he is allowed to
Trump will end up reversing this decision because Biden made it. Even though he’s also said they shouldn’t be allowed to sell to nipppon.
Wow. Good for that long list of advisers to speak up. Super disappointing for Biden who is not commercially minded to ignore their counsel.
Am I reading this right? Jared Bernstein and Rahm Emanuel actually supported this deal? Or was it just that they weren't insane enough to believe that a Japanese company posed a 'national security' risk?
Looks like some people are trying to disassociate themselves from a failed administration. And yet many supported this administration despite the inept leadership at the top.
Joe is planning on running for Senate in 2030 in PA to replace Fetterman and doesn't want to lose the union vote.
Interesting. Rahm Emanuel: Jewish Jared Bernstein: Jewish Kurt Campbell: Jewish Antony Blinken: Jewish Jonathan Finer: Jewish Janet Yellen: Jewish Is this a coincidence? Were there other dissenters?
There is no large wave of defections from the same advisors to send billions & billions of American tax dollars to apartheid Israel to kill innocent civilians. In 2024 alone, they sent equal to $3,000 per Israeli while they ignored every core issue the democratic base cared about
Seems like he didn’t want the political blowback of “selling off US STEEL” by Fox News. Blame them.
Lol, these same key advisors have led biden to send more weapons for the genocide in gaza..
I’ve had my criticism of Biden but he knows what he is doing. All these other people, who I’m sure are well intentioned, don’t have a clue against how politics works compared to Biden’s experience. If it weren’t for things like IRA and CHIPs I would’ve given up on the party.

NEW: Report details alarming ties between Nippon Steel and the Chinese steel industry. Yet another reason we can’t allow them to buy U.S. Steel.

I can almost guarantee that the US Steel CEO and board member would have gotten lucrative golden parachutes. This after looting the company and paying bonuses instead of investing in new equipment. F every one of them. I'm a Trump supporter, but I agree with Biden on this.
Ironic, if not tragic, that political posturing by both Biden and Trump designed to woo swing-state Pennsylvania will now likely result in the departure of U.S. Steel and elimination of Pa.'s steelworker jobs.
Buddy, what is this stupid horseshit? Joe Biden has no idea where he is or what day it is. He didn't "override" anything, you fucking chimp.
In recent weeks I have been reliably informed by Experts that it is Dangerous to Our Democracy for non-elected advisors to have influence with the president.
