it’s genuinely fascinating how establishment democratic politics in big cities has become so ossified and incompetent that they’ve created a huge lane for the left to embrace good government + YIMBY reforms, and build a broad coalition of socialists and technocrats

Former Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is opening doors for DSA-backed L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman — bringing her face-to-face with some of the city’s biggest power players, TMZ reports. He hosted an off-the-record meeting at his L.A. office last week. Hollywood,

Nithya Raman has -lowered homelessness in her district -supported international best practices for transit instead of unworkable proposals like Karen Bass’ unfunded free buses -supported sb79 to actually build more housing in LA while Bass keeps trying to gut the law
LA was progressive and DSA left on its strong city council form of Government. Daniel Lurie in SF is “establishment” moderate Democrat. Nithya is going the Mamdani way, which is not the same as the leftist Progressive/DSA governance many big cities had, like SF in its doom
It’s crazy bc my base inclination is to default to Bass, right? A lot of experience governing, she’s not going to seize the means of production & send businesses scrambling. But the more I get introduced to the candidates, I am leaning towards Raman. What good is Bass’
Maybe? But lefties are generally bad at governing. Mamdani might be an exception. But even he does dumb stuff like expanding rent control.
Raman is an imbecile. Same way I blame Democrats for making Trump look like a good idea TWICE, I blame them for making this halfwit look like a viable alternative. Embarrassing.

Raman's 10-cent brain is especially offensive. Here, she famously blames Toyota—not THIEVES—for making catalytic-converters "easy to remove". She's also for vagrant encampments near schools, against police & for every idiotic woke social contagion.
The media could not be played.
Karen Bass has failed LA, zero leadership & almost a disdain for actually serving the city. The city is sleepwalking towards crisis. She should be thankful that she’ll be living sphere else’s when the Olympics happen.
That's fine, so long as the left continues to view technocrats with suspicion and never goes all-in with that lot, who are very easily bought by insane billionaires (or may be themselves).
It is actually a repeat of the first Gilded Age, where rampant and dysfunctional machine politics creates several strange bedfellows, including coalitions of good government progressives who were tied to both socialists and capitalists.
Karen Bass. She is practically a communist. Are communists what you consider "establishment democrats"?
This is why Armold will be liked. What matters in the end is, those who solve problems. Its evident for past ten years, idealogical positions are just a convenience and a means to gaslight.
This is just how history works. Revolutionary France (temporarily) fulfilled the sun-king dream of French domination of Europe, the Bolsheviks (temporarily) fulfilled the Russophile dream of Slavic unity. The Weltgeist demands DSA renew America for the acquisition of unipolarity.
The party need leaders who are not corrupt. They don't need socialists. just honnest leadership defending normal people will do great in the elections. it's now a choice between bought and paid for and lunatic lefties
Folks are going to start noticing all these brown mayors and the hammer will drop on one from our chud federal actors. Mamdani is too slippery, Raman a nerd, but someone else.
Because establishment figures want to straddle the line between serving working people and serving big business who have inherently contradictory priorities. The left is not always directly taking on corporate America, but it's clear whose side they're on.
On the one hand, yes the remnants of old school democratic “machine” politics are beyond tired. On the other, In this race especially, Dems win either way. Raman providing some sort of Mamadani like win won’t alienate many Ds, and the alternative is Bass succeeds.
If the DSA weren’t, umm socialists, they would have a lot more appeal. People want technocrats who can provide quality government services efficiently. High taxes to pay for “programs” with vaguely defined squishy objectives that sound altruistic are how corruption/fraud happen.
I don’t know Sam. I’m usually with you. Fan of what Zohran has done too. But I lived in LA for years. When Nithya was on the council too and her candidacy is not very inspiring. Honestly I don’t feel like either option is great for La, sadly.
The left always had that lane but refused for ideological reasons. Like more housing isn't good unless it's government run housing etc.
People have to understand establishment Dems and republicans believe in outsourcing our problems to businesses to solve. If you believe that our government (people who are voted in to lead communities) should be solving problems then paying businesses to do it is a failure
If Raman is so great why have none of her peers on city council endorsed her? Why has she missed 3,000 votes? Stick to NYC bro. You really don't know much about LA lmao

Neoliberal centrist democrats have made people’s lives worse for decades. They have absolutely no legitimacy
