That also explains why divorce rates are falling: middle and upper class people make better marital decisions than lower class people, just as they do with all other types of decision.
What's interesting is that the college educated share of the population has been rising quickly (especially for women) during this time period, so it should be a decreasingly selected group.
It is worth noting that at least some of this gap is explained by lower rates of divorce among people with a college degree. I found this interesting (but not surprising): "Turns out that a good-sized share of college-educated woman have always married men without bachelor's

Yep - what's not needed is alpha chads but something like the temperance movement, Get lower class men back on track by savaging the vices that throw them off track - sports betting, hard alcohol, drugs, painkillers, etc.
My guess is that there are major differences between the less-educated women of the past and the less-educated women of today. Neither men nor women needed as much education in the past. The ones with little education today might be desperately poor or have other problems.
I really think increasing housing supply to reduce the cost of home/rent and having people graduate HS with a technical certificate (welding, sldwrks , nursing assistant) so people can start their life earlier is the best path twords having more kids.

Isn't it interesting that the media and elites have been preaching to the underclasses negative messaging about the nuclear family as they themselves enjoy the economic & human flourishing benefits of marriage for themselves & their children?
This is true; we really need to help younger generation find stability in their families w marriage as a key attribute of success in life; not the only one but very important.
Totally agree - but women may have to consider expanding the marriage-partner pool to non-college edcurated. Statistica presents ~6M > Female bachelor 2000-2024 for US alone. I only have daughters and they see it at university and I see it in the workforce. Interesting times.
Yeah but the vast majority of those less educated women are not childless. These aren't women who have sacrificed their childbearing years for a career, they just never got married, or are divorced/ between husbands. So different conversation entirely.

It's sad that marriage is declining in any cohort, but it's awesome that it's at least flat amongst college grads. The problem is, college grads are the cohort that are refusing to have kids. They need to be encouraged to have them!
Many problems with this chart. First off, the definition of “college educated” has shifted dramatically. Second, perhaps these women aren’t married because they’ve been divorced - vs. never married? I just don’t think the chart proves your point
African-American red pillers are often more accurate in their "then vs now" analysis. The rise in births out of wedlock and decline in women's values is something their communities have seen firsthand up close. Educated white men read ragebait and imagine how bad it must be
Maybe you could use a chart that doesn't cap at 1980? Many more women now have bachelors degrees than they did in 1980 so like, simply using a chart that caps at 1980 means nothing
One easy explanation for this, though, is that higher-earning men feel compelled to marry higher-earning women because of the perceived necessity of a dual-income household, and lower-earning women are left with what’s left.
At age 45 is different than by age 45. Maybe these women were married and had babies but got divorced. Intelligence predicts long-term marriage success.
Today, we remember Reyhaneh Jabbari, a 26-year-old Iranian woman EXECUTED for defending herself against RAPE. Imagine facing death simply for saying "No"! Western women, stand with us in amplifying Reyhaneh’s voice and all women in Iran who risk everything for their dignity and

Ive learned the past few years statistics from demographics usually confirm the stereotypes of people considered to be marginalized or disadvantaged.
Is that entirely a "decline in marriage among less-educated women" or in large part a decline in the percentage of stable marriageable women who haven't finished a Bachelor's Degree program?
How much of this is downselection since more and more women get college degrees, leaving a smaller subset that for whatever reason are more likely to not get married? cos then there would be no causal link
If your job is mostly about sending emails then you are the equivalent of the guy/gal standing at the water cooler asking everyone how their day is going, inquiring about what projects they are on, etc. while adding nothing of value to any of them.
Because people don’t want to call out reality. The only reason we had birthrate replacement levels in the past is because women had no options. The fate of one’s people is dependent on the level of oppression put onto their women.
This does not prove they have email jobs or a girl bosses. It just says women with degrees marry more often than women without.
When a graph and data uses highly convoluted data it usually means cooking the stats to meet a narrative, and that is clearly the case here. Why use birth year? Why pick married during 1 year of life at age 45? Who says 'girl-boss' is restricted to college degree holding

"Married by age 45" is a meaningless, I suspect cherry-picked statistic. By the time you're 45 the impact of marriage on your life is almost nil. Your life has already taken a "single life"/childless trajectory, and can't be reset. The real question is motherhood. Reframe the

Women began overtaking men in college graduation rates in early 80s perhaps? Current gender difference for degrees is something like 58/42 F/M. The numbers above are going to change significantly assuming women marry same/more educated partners.
Survivorship bias in that educated women marry men who have a higher socio-economic status than themselves, which is the primary predictor of marriage stability. I.e. the decline in marriage in less educated women is because of the decline in male education/wealth.

I’ll believe my own lying eyes. Deferral of marriage is just as big a deal when we are talking educated middle class. The impact on fertility is serious.
I smell a scummy chart. 1. The drop is in both groups. 79→71% is not insignificant. 2. The y-axis is artificially narrow to exaggerate the delta between the two drops. 3. These groups are not static over time. There are way more women with bachelors degrees now than in 1930.
This is indicative a broader shift to degeneracy in mass culture. Make a new Instagram account and start opening up influencer slop in explore, you will be exposed to a frightening foreign world
They hate women with white collar jobs because they want those jobs, that's all. 4channers are pushing this narrative, and many 4channers think they're geniuses who deserve easy office jobs.
This tweet isn't blockchain/crypto-related, so I'll keep it casual and friendly! Interesting take—marriage trends and societal shifts are always worth exploring. What do you think drives these changes?
Atlas: “Allowing boys in girls locker rooms is one of the most repulsive examples of failed leadership. The lack of not just common sense but courage to say what everyone knows—it's an invasion of privacy. I can't imagine any father wants their daughter in a dressing room w/ men”
No, it doesn't mean they don't marry. It could just mean they are more likely to be divorced or cohabiting outside marriage. Nor does indicate the number of children.
Where'd u get this data it's so up to date, didn't realize 1980 data was already available, what's ur source? Anyhow check who initiates divorces.
