Finished "Tinker, Tailor..." just recently and my mind is blown. I never expected it to be such a melancholic story and (subtly) dwell on post empire so much. Halcyon days indeed.
He was a great writer, not just a spy novelist. I read his stuff voraciously in the 80s.
In case this helps anyone, the Alec Guinness version is on YouTube youtu.be/2Ld2X0Fvypw?...
Single best espionage movie/series ever made. I will die on this hill.
23rd has to be Bill Haydon saying 'it's a fair cop, George' but using much more flowery Oxbridge vocabulary.
I would actually buy this, the world-weariness has always had a great appeal to me.
Only missing a stop for a drink with Connie out Oxford way, and note from Ann saying "don't wait up this week, I won't be home 'til ever. -- All my love, Ann."

It's a strange addiction, very hard to articulate, and trying to explain it to a non Le Carré fan is like showing a dog a card trick!
Very nice. I miss his writing.
Smiley, resigned, was done chatting with Peter Guilliam about his wife, or Peter's next infatuation with staff
I lighted so hard at this. Back to reading The Secret Pilgrim 😀
Have you done a Ian Flemming Advent Calendar to encompass the full spectrum of the genre
Thanks. I make limited editions of prints from time to time, but not all of them. I won’t be making anything else this year.
Will check out your website occasionally on the off-chance
Damp, Dilapidated 70s London. Been there, left there. Had a great meal though on way from Faro. Waiter said yes new chef from Portugal. Damn no wonder Port had such lousy food. Like boiled rocks. Something to be said for immigration!
While Christmas cards addressed to Ann sit on the mantle
'Tis almost the season. Love this. I'll be sharing it with my OU CW students.
You know that this needs to be a thing for next Christmas.
Aw this is so wonderful! Thank you. (Please do something for Easter; these repetitive holidays).
