I thought Pete was a bad pick and thought Biden should invoke Taft-Hartley I will never doubt this administration on domestic policy for the rest of the term. They are cooking

We’re told Pete Buttigieg was the point man for the administration in getting the agreement to suspend the port strike. Named specifically by both sides in the press release. It’s quiet, but effective, leadership people appreciate. No rallies, no blowhard ranting - just a deal

My brother in Christ. They missed out on a politically acceptable time to automate the ports. We may never see that again for decades. What are you talking about
Complete failure not to use this opportunity to fix the ports and destroy that union
You really believe that? FL Governor DeSantis sending in the national guard to Florida ports to reopen them is what forced the union boss to agree to new terms. Every cargo ship on the East coast would came to Miami or Jacksonville to Tampa and he knew it.

LOL, This is laughably false. Biden/Harris parlayed with the ILA for weeks and accomplished nothing. DeSantis threatened to send in the National Guard and the union crumbled in a matter of hours. Why? Because it showed that Republican governors in VA, AL, TX, GA, LA, and SC x.com/BarryMarkson1/…

Pete as Sec of Transport is a very European style parliamentary politics pick. You get one of your most talented up and coming politicians into a ministerial brief. They succeed. Then promote them higher to like the foreign office. In this case US Ambassador to UN maybe.
I was actively praising and voting for Pete in the 2020 primary for this exact reason. Dude is built differently when it comes to governing and I could tell from the debates he was different than other politicians.
I’m happy with Walz as the VP pick, but Pete would have absolutely destroyed Vance on that debate stage. He dismantles liars with a surgical-like precision and finesse.
NEVER underestimate Joe Biden. He smart, pro-Union, and made solid Cabinet picks. This was a great spot to get Buttigieg to DC, in a smaller role, so he could get some experience. If VP wins, I expect him to have a larger role.
One month before the election, and then 2 months of the lame duck period. Not exactly a huge commitment on your part there!
You were right the first time, paying the union off for now was the only choice. Given the aggressive disinterest by the VP, administration and media they all clearly knew the strike would end up as a nothing burger.
So you're 0 for 2 (on this; probably much worse on a bunch of other stuff) and now you're gonna trust him for a whole three months? Wow, how generous.
Pete's career is just getting started. I look forward to watching it. I don't think Taft-Hartley was ever the play, here. The Biden Admin already--unfairly--takes criticism for not vetoing the end to the rail workers' strike.
Seeing Pete get well deserved credit but not seeing credit also given to acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su.
The learning curve has been pretty good for Biden’s people. The old man likes to teach
He’s been an excellent no nonsense get it done kind of guy. Suffers no fools. I am always amazed that Fox continues to ask him to appear. He slices and dices their arguments.
Ha ha. You meant to say the badass move from DeSantis if sending in the national guard to pick up where the strike left off forced the hands of all you mentioned!!
It ended because the Union President looked like a Mob Boss threatening to cripple the country before an election. Then when the public found out how much the average Longshoreman and the Union Pres makes, they lost all public support and became bad optics for the “Union” party.
Buttigieg was a bad pick and Biden should have invoked Taft-Hartley. That we're told Buttigieg was point man doesn't make it true; we were told Kamala was point on immigration. If your doubt is too easily assuaged, it makes you an easy mark.
Did the ILA bluff and get called?

So… was the ILA leadership expecting Biden to invoke Taft-Hartley to force them back to work, to get him to hurt himself with union members… but then when Biden didn't do that – (in effect) calling their bluff – they folded (ie, suspended the strike 'til after the election)? 🤔 x.com/atrupar/status…
Wait so every account on Twitter was screaming about the potential strike, and I find out it was suspended from one tweet after scrolling Twitter for an hour? Love the way the information ecosystem here works
We need President Pete. Why do we keep pushing aside our best and brightest? (eg appointing Elizabeth Warren to a much higher position of decision making)
There were promises given to the union leaders that may not be followed through with, even if Harris is elected. Just wait until January.
President Biden and Secretary Pete sincerely care about the working man. It's sad to see so many of them waving a MAGA flag for a man who has abused their kind for his entire life.
