A big problem with TikTok is that Americans don't *realize* they're on a Chinese government-controlled platform that's censoring them. On RedNote (Xiaohongshu), it's explicit. So it's much more benign, and even positive. Americans *should* be able to go on the Chinese internet.

As Americans flood Xiaohongshu, we're seeing a lot more direct online interaction between US and PRC citizens. But the PRC has not always welcomed that, which is partly why it has banned foreign social media. So Xiaohongshu's recent success is also a test for PRC authorities.

It's also good news because it appears likely the Supreme Court will uphold the law against CCP control. By whatever means they know they are about to lose and this is a temper tantrum.
hm that's an interesting perspective I thought the main reason to ban tiktok was that it could turn your device into a spying apparatus
I get what youโ€™re sayin. Youโ€™re not wrong in that respect But I still donโ€™t want CCP spyware on American electronic devices.
It took me one night to get banned. My posts were benign by American standards sharing art, movies and handbags.

I donโ€™t know what data they plan to collect, but on here and other plagforms I plan on talking about my life. On rednote I plan on posting something very different: the LEGEND of Bryce. Hopefully, with a little luck, my great and incredible feats of bravery will be on a bunch

They're "discovering" on Xiaohongshu that Chinese people don't struggle to buy groceries like Americans do. That Chinese people support Luigi Mangione because his actions advance America's economic liberation. They think that these "truths" differ from American media because of

The problem isnโ€™t whether Americans realize theyโ€™re on a CCP-controlled platformโ€”itโ€™s that any platform under the CCP operates with censorship and surveillance baked into its core. Xiaohongshu being 'explicit' about it doesnโ€™t make it benign; it just means the control is out in

I do wonder whether China ultimately wants all these foreigners interacting with their people even if it's highly censored. I wouldn't be surprised if China ends up banning foreigners from all these apps within a few months.
did you see HUDI token price lately? ๐Ÿคฌ the pool is so small and the price is so low that it would need a few KK to do a 100x ๐Ÿ˜– but we will continue NOT to advertise the token ๐Ÿ™‰ ๐Ÿ‘‰ try HUDI tech to gain real data freedom and monetization ๐Ÿ”ฅ #techovermeme #techtoken

A big problem with TikTok is that Americans don't *realize* they're on a Chinese government-controlled platform that's censoring them. Still not convinced we need to force sell them and allow Bari Weiss to censor the website.
RedNote will roll out segregation features to prevent the Chinese users from seeing and interacting with the American users. Their influx is a censorship dilema, the RedNote is terrified.
Completely agree. And thus the short-term consequence of the Xiaohongshu migration has actually been a problem for the CCP, which has had to deal with a massive influx of Americans now on the Chinese internet, challenging the โ€œcommunity guidelinesโ€ that they set in place.
Yeah, it's a truly incredible peak behind the Great Firewall, if short-lived:

"Chinese officials raised the issue with RedNoteโ€™s government relations team earlier this week, warning that the company needs to ensure China-based users canโ€™t see posts from U.S. users." Great scoop by @theinformation theinformation.com/articles/tikto
"A big problem with TikTok is that Americans don't *realize*...." I'm still not sure that isn't a simple free speech matter. During the Cold War it was perfectly legal for me to read Pravada everyday. Maybe I knew it was propaganda or maybe I didn't.
American culture and political sentiment is a known memetic contagion. The American people are going to do in 3 months what the CIA hasn't been able to do in a century. I have known Chinese University students that love America beyond comprehension.
I'm honestly on board with sending our worst to China's social media to do a little bit of damage to their culture
And the most worrisome outcome to this is America protesting only Americans, leaving European and latรญn american (and other countries) on free CCP hands with TikTok
Agree. It also helps to inform the distraught Americans that Tiktok is also banned in China.
Yeah, they should stay on Facebook and Twitter and let Zuckerberg and Musk do the censoring. Because those guys are more trustworthy, right? Too bad Xiaohongshu is SO much better than those homegrown US brainwashing apps.
