I think this is wrong. It makes sense for Trump to proceed with caution when advancing right-wing policy (like abortion restrictions) but if he and Musk want to loudly champion expanded legal immigration they can carry the day — it’ll just require working with some Democrats.

You’re not going to get this done on a party-like vote because obviously *some* GOP members are fanatical nativists, but Trump can sell his base on this (just like it was Obama who set deportation records).

President Trump tells me he supports H-1B visas calling it "a great program” and adds "I have many H-1B visas on my properties"

I think Trump is misstating the situation when he says he has many H-1B visa holders on his properties, though.
The situation as I understand it is that he employs H-2B non-agricultural seasonal workers.
It’s been great to see Musk and the Tech Right talk about the importance of visas for engineers, but Trump can hopefully help them broaden their understanding of the wide range of sectors that can benefit from legal employment migration.
I think the point is that it's better if it looks like it's coming from Trump. It was already floated during an Arizona rally that Trump is taking "orders" from Musk and I'm not sure Trump will like this long term.
does Trump even need the help of anti-immigration hardliners anymore? He won. He is a “lame duck” unless he wants a constitutional crisis…seems worth debating whether he has enough to be done with them. They all want the same thing on taxes, so it won’t impact reconciliation
Not sure. Running on a blistering, full on nativist platform galvanized a significant part of the gop base. He can win with Dems—but that will wreak havoc on that base, as surely as being explicitly pro choice (not merely shrewdly hedging on national policy) would.
Should Texas be allowed to prosecute illegal immigrants on its own?
The Biden administration argues—“Texas cannot run its own immigration system.” Should Texas be allowed to prosecute illegal immigrants on its own? Let us know below!
I wonder if we have a precedent of this? Oh, we do! Boris Johnson! What were the consequences for the Tories, pray?
Be hilarious if:
1. Latinos turn away from Ds bc years of failed promises on citizenship
2. Ds give Rs the lift for visa expansion, making
3. Racists ditch Rs And
4. Latinos turn away Rs bc they increased immigration but did nothing on citizenship
H1B by definition is not an immigration policy.
Trump used it to hire cooks and waiters for Mar-A-Lago, so it seems it is not even for labor shortages.
It is for cheap labor. Stephen Miller even railed against it as a way for tech to get cheap labor.
