We don't know if this ⬇️ is why Musk opposed the CR. We do know that he has a big corporate presence in 2 places - the US and China. And that he constantly criticizes America, but never criticizes China or the CCP, and usually opposes policies that would hurt the CCP. 1/

One of the key new provisions in the CR that Musk just killed would have restricted high tech investments in China such as, surprise surprise, his own plan for a China based data center to develop AI for Tesla cars.

There are a couple of possible reasons for this. The first is that Musk is genuinely more comfortable with an authoritarian system like China's than he is with a democracy like ours, with all its requirements of transparency and accountability that keep oligarchs in check. 2/
The second is that he's just a coward -- he knows that in America he can say whatever he wants without being thrown in jail or even losing gov't contracts, whereas if he criticized Xi Jinping for torturing Uighurs or threatening war with Taiwan, Tesla could get crushed. 3/
What makes Musk unique is his political power, as we saw with the CR. If he keeps using ownership of and spending massive sums on elections in a quest to radically change how America is governed, his conflicts of interest with China's Communist Party need to be understood.
Says the millionaire government bureaucrat. I hate Musk, but I desperately want to know how someone who only worked in the US government for their whole career is worth $8M like you, Tom. Bc it's people like you that made it clear in the first place that the US gov is for sale.
