Or the water argument against AI is just unsubstantive. There are more important things we should be talking about.

If it were actually the case that datacenters would consume vast quantities of water, there'd be a regional case for opposing them and a global case for situating them where fresh water was cheap. (This is the case about electricity.) AI killing everyone is alas not regional.

I think summarizing this as "swings by +31 points" is misleading to the point of itself being a lie, depending on how fine grained their likert scale was.

this is actually not a problem because they are predisposed to accept the water wastage narrative because it matches their priors about big tech being evil so it will always vastly outcompete the truth

True, but the lies that are used to make the case against data centers based on their water use are even more exaggerated. There certainly are some adversarial cases though, and those are no joke.
