these are obviously not comparable numbers though? It is just subject to a "time-on-the-road" bias.
I assume reliability has improved, even just given that there were a lot of recalls in older batteries that likely upped the replacement rate a lot
If the year were 2046, that statistic might be reassuring. Batteries mostly last four years? Ho hum.
It was the Nissan Leaf that single-handedly led to the perception that EV batteries don’t last. Their first gen batteries were improperly designed, using cells very sensitive to heat and then not including any cooling.
And CATL says they think they can get sodium batteries down to $19/kwh and they'll last longer than current batteries, lifespan exceeding 10,000 cycles.
Still amazes me that Tesla hasn't offered cheap battery insurance after 100K miles. Make it revenue neutral. Pool the drivers. TRACK battery treatment across life of car. So that folks who do 20-80% over life of car have higher resale value, bc monthly battery insurance is
