Also on the right, a lot of the protectionist intellectualizers try to claim Hamilton but their justifications for tariffs are more often Jefferson's idealization of yeoman farmers transposed onto manufacturing workers
Another perfect example!

The Big Beautiful Bill contains a provision banning state & local governments from regulating AI.
It’s worse than you think.
It would make it easier for corporations to get zoning variances, so massive AI data centers could be built in close proximity to residential areas.
I mean, Marc Dunkelman makes that framework explicit in "Why Nothing Works," and it's clear that those two works are in some degree of conversation with each other.

Ask Michael Dunkleman points out, the solutions to our abundance problems consist of both Jeffersonian (abolition of zoning) and Hamiltonian (build HSR without public input) solutions.
It works as a political classification but is horrendously bad as a policy classification since Jefferson supported liberal policies and Hamilton supported illiberal policies

Just interviewed Ralph Nader and he trashed "Abundance," saying that Klein/Thompson do not understand corporate power and their blame of Naderites for impeding government efficiency totally misunderstands how power works.
I am so glad "why tariff banana" thought is reaching members of Congress. It's the most obvious example of how insane this administration's trade policy has been—officials like Lutnick can't give a good justification for it because there simply isn't one

DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?
LUTNICK: Generally 10%
DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%
LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff
DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

The Tech Right got suckered by the most obvious con-man in political history, defended him while he raised tariffs, slashed science, and scared away foreign talent, and now the admin is gonna wreck SpaceX for spite while Bannon calls for Musk's deportation. Well done.
God, one of those career "let's start a centrist party!" pollsters is going to make so much money showing 10-year-old slide decks to Musk.
