Tariffs on imported metal make American-built appliances uncompetitive with foreign-built ones, so we’re getting tariffs on appliances made of metal too. The upshot — higher costs for Americans, less competitiveness in export markets for American manufacturing.

Tariffs aren’t about comfort—they’re about leverage. The steel tariff expansion forces foreign manufacturers to either reshore production or face crushing costs. Yes, prices may rise short-term, but the goal is to reset decades of trade imbalance where foreign goods undercut U.S.
