can confirm even the most shoddy-looking or outside toilets in japan were exactly like this one for some reason, I can't believe no one is buying them here, it's like with AC has everyone in Europe gone insane

The rich barely have to wipe their asses at all, because they use Japanese washing toilets. The middle class could afford these, but they lack information and are afraid of foreign technology. x.com/JeremiahDJohns…

to be clear, now that has reposted this, I expect him to get himself a japanese toilet and announce it if he can handily afford it, because I will take his noah opinions a little less seriously if he doesn't
But we already have actual bidets, the practical difference between the two is so tiny that familiarity prevails. The real scandal is that our *public* toilets are horrible, we should all strive for Japanese levels there.
*I* don't have a bidet alas (I'm in France) and have never seen any around here except in renaissance castles. But you're right. Also their bidets have 3 different directions, the toilets take much less space than toilet + bidet, and there are other functions too like
Requires electrical outlet near toilet which hasn’t been done. Probably needs a safety outlet as well. Cheaper not to do that work in new builds, not cheap in older buildings.
Yeah just like AC, but also there are cultural forces actively resisting "just lay down that money and renovate the damn place" and also against this happening in brand new places, and that's what I can yell at from my puny european apartment in sweltering heat
