NEWS: Joe Biden is preparing a ban on Chinese self-driving car technology amid fears vehicles could be "piloted or disabled remotely" on US roads. A proposed block by the US Department of Commerce on the import and sale of cars that rely on Chinese software is expected to take effect on new models from 2027. A further ban on Chinese hardware will come into force from 2030. The ban, which will affect Russian and Chinese technology, will block sales of cars including hardware or software designed to connect cars to the internet, including microchips used to receive and transmit information such as location or traffic data or to update self-driving technology. Another Elon hit piece… now what could china do to retaliate? What a bad president. He is not serving his people but his own agenda 🤡
This is completely useless Chinese are not even selling cars in the US. Instead just push cyber security regulations for cars, including need to localize the full infrastructure & get it audited. It’s how china does it. This allows for competition & promotes best practices.
The Biden administration is doing all of this to try to hurt Elon/Tesla and try to slow the progress down of FSD and get China to block testing of FSD. All this to try to get China to turn against Elon. Disgusting. This tit for tat BS needs to stop.
We don't need self driving cars, we don't need it. It is just making cars more expensive paying for all the research. Eventually it will be a good thing and will likely be in all cars but should not at the expense of ruining the EV market now with overpriced and over featured

They better start supporting Tesla and other innovative players - or the trade obstacles/bans will cause the US falling behind in technology. Competition - also international - is healthy for the fitness and future prosperity - capitalism needs competition and meritocracy.

This is really bad news for $TSLA. If the Department of Commerce proceeds, China will have no choice but to retaliate in kind. It’s clear that this is the Department of Commerce’s intention; the only reason for this move would be to provoke a response from China. We all know this

It's obvious what the play is here: US banning Chinese self-driving cars (which aren't even a thing nor a prospect of being one in the US) is intended to elicit a reciprocal ban by China on US technology, just in time to throw a wrench into Tesla's roll-out of FSD in China. The

Should Texas be allowed to prosecute illegal immigrants on its own? The Biden administration argues—“Texas cannot run its own immigration system.” Should Texas be allowed to prosecute illegal immigrants on its own? Let us know below!
Well, here's the funny thing. Who can disable and has disabled cars remotely? $TSLA Perhaps China, given precedent and given the US actions, ought to worry about the same exact thing?
It's a double-edged sword. This policy could lead to each country only allowing their own electric vehicle autonomous driving technology to run on their own roads. This policy could cause the Galapagosization of autonomous driving technology. Just as China allows foreign software

FJB couldn’t prepare his morning coffee, let alone ‘prepare a ban’ on anything, especially not one of the many countries his family took money from. Maybe the low IQ, rich parented, feminist 20something interns from IVY leauge schools but with marketing degrees on his

Joe biden isn’t preparing bans on anything, someone else is. And if they want to block things (parts, components, electronics etc etc made in China), then they’ll find out we’ll all have nothing, because high taxes drove our manufacturing overseas, especially to China. Walmart

Just require that self driving be local to the car with no remote capabilities? I guess that would be very difficult to enforce with incompetent government and cars that update over wifi.
This is good as we must decouple from China, ban their exports even from 3rd countries, and not allow them any access to our core infrastructure, as they are the enemy, and America must prevail…we should also partner with our allies and friends for secure and reliable China free

IIRC, we have an upcoming law in the US which allows "authorities" to operate a "kill switch" to on US cars to disable them that are made later this decade. 🤔
