Russiaโ€™s new fiber-optic drones helped it capture more Ukrainian territory in May than any month since Nov 2024. FT: They strike 30โ€“40โ€ฏkm deep, bypass jamming, and sever supply routes before infantry moves in. 1/

These drones are connected by hair-thin fiber-optic cables, not radio signals. They can fly through forests, alleys, under power lines - immune to EW. Ukraineโ€™s jammers donโ€™t work. Rain or fog is the only reliable disruption. 2/
Russian forces began using them massively in early 2025. Now they shape the battlefield. In Sumy, they helped Moscow seize 200โ€ฏkmยฒ after pushing Ukrainians from the Kursk border. In Donetsk, they enabled a 12โ€ฏkm advance toward Kostyantynivka. 3/
At Kostyantynivka, Russia cut the key road to Pokrovsk - a major Ukrainian supply artery. Ukrainian drone units call it a โ€œkill zoneโ€: no unarmored vehicles, no movement by day. Even aid orgs like East SOS have stopped evacuations from parts of the city. 4/
Frontline soldiers now walk 10โ€“15โ€ฏkm at night to reach positions. Trucks are routinely hit 5โ€ฏkm from the front. Soldier from this region: If you drive during the day, you donโ€™t come back. 5/
The drones target logistics: fuel trucks, supply convoys, medevac routes. On the Kramatorskโ€“Dobropillia road, Russian drones hit multiple Ukrainian resupply convoys in recent weeks. Even Kramatorsk(the command hub for Donetsk) is no longer safe. 6/
Ukraineโ€™s drone teams try to hold the line, but fiber drones are hard to stop. Moscow now uses motorcycles and dismounted infantry to dart behind lines. Cities like Slovyansk and Kramatorsk may soon be within artillery range. 7/
Even if Russia doesnโ€™t capture big cities, it can disable them. Thatโ€™s the logic of fiber-optic warfare: collapse the system before taking ground. 8X
I imagine thereโ€™s a โ€œband sawโ€ type of solution in the works, two drones vertically stacked that act like scissors to the fiber optic cables. I have a few ideas. #NAFOFellas what do you think?
fiber-optic drones are just another step in moscovite tech escalation. theyโ€™ll keep trying to bypass jamming and cut supply lines, but ukraineโ€™s resistance and tech innovation will keep us ahead. no quick wins for moscovia, just more wasted resources.
Fortunately Ukrainians are adapting. Ukrainians are now specifically seeking out and killing Russian drones operators.

The appointment of Robert Brovdi, known by his call sign "Madyar," as head of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine has already yielded noticeable results, according to Russian military bloggers. They report that Ukrainian drone strikes are now primarily aimed at eliminating

The Russians have confirmed that per Madyar's changes to the points system for drone units that attacks on Russian drone crews has greatly intensified, and has concurrently eased off on logistics forces. Special attention is apparently being paid to fiber optic FPV operators. x.com/grandparoy2/stโ€ฆ

Could do a dragnet by flying drones with long (1km?) fishline and hook on the end. If you've ever tried fishing of the same dock as someone else, you'll know what I mean.
It's absolutely clear that drones are the future of warfare except for those whose careers depend on not acknowledging it fully.
Not much you can do about them really. You can either shoot them down with shotguns, or lie in wait and try to cut the cables with scissors once they fly by ๐Ÿ‘€

This is a perfect example of CHINA powering the Russian aggression in Ukraine. Without China's strong technological support Russia would have lost the war long ago. It's going to lose anyway, but China's making it more painful and more bloody.
You can use the used fiber optic cable as a seismic sensor with the right equipment to track troop and vehicle movement.
