The protection racket continues! Other cities don’t live under endless scaffolding- instead of fixing the rules that created 400mi of it, NYC is choosing to make it even more expensive. The scaffolding lobby is incredibly powerful :/ x.com/pitdesi/status

A new era in public space is about to begin in NYC. Say goodbye to the Green Monster sidewalk sheds (aka scaffolding). They will now be replaced by 6 different lighter, more open, innovative designs. 🧵

Ever notice NYC has more scaffolding than any city on Earth? It isn't because they're building more. It started from tragedy > then it became safety theater > now a $10B bureaucratic protection racket blessed by the government & unions In 1979, a Barnard student was killed by x.com/realEstateTren…

Making protection theater pretty isn’t progress imo

“My cousin vinchenzo is a scaffolding expert and he said we simply must use the heavy duty type 5b scaffold for this building. If you don’t like it every other organized trade working on this site will slow to a stand still”
It’s cheaper to rent scaffolding than to repair stonework. Code requires regular inspections (to prevent falling brink/stone).

Imagine you’re an ordinary American. You finish your shift, go home, and share your opinion online. Then your post disappears. Your account gets silenced. You start feeling like the system isn’t yours anymore, like there are invisible forces stopping you.
Anyone have evidence of a way to keep sidewalks open with an alternative? Seattle shuts them down and usually has no detour besides crossing mid block
Yet another reason I hate that damn city having lived there. People who think NYC is great are literally delusional. Good to visit for 4 days. Monumentally corrupt and equally expensive. Whenever I go i feel I've entered a developing country that just quit at some point.
