Yes. The biggest danger of war in the world today is the fact that North Korea and China have nukes, but South Korea and Japan do not have nukes. Ukraine shows what happens when you have this kind of asymmetry between empires and the lands they covet.

Ukraine will be the catylst for mass nuclear profileration as it proves how nuclear umbrellas don't work. The Budapest Memorandum has fallen woefully short in the eyes of every country watching on the sidelines. Even North Korea knew China's umbrella wasn't sufficient.
Then every country in the world who wants a nuke will be able to get one. All is well until some crazies who want to go to heaven with 72 virgins get one.
It’s a dangerous game of imbalance—nuclear deterrence isn’t just about having power, it’s about preventing the appetite for conquest from ever surfacing.
Easiest way to world peace is for the USA to gift 300 nuclear tomahawks and 300 SM-6 each to UK, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan along with typhon. Problem is, we can't make them anymore. But they could with our help.
What is not being said is that Japan can go from zero to ICBM in a single calendar year if need be. They have all of the precursors, including fissionable material, but they choose to be under the US umbrella.
North Korea’s impressive stockpile of artillery shells poses a direct kinetic threat to Seoul and other built up industrial areas of South Korea. A prolonged and sustained artillery barrage from the North would probably be just as deadly as the detonation of a nuclear weapon.
Israel, India and Pakistan were wise for not signing nuclear non-proliferation. This did not lead to isolation on the international stage and they can do whatever they want to ensure their own security. Immense win.
It seems that the best contribution to peace would be for the US just to announce one fine day that it has already transferred long-range missiles with nuclear warheads to several countries in the region (without even mentioning them by name)
dangerous door to be opening... we have real defense pacts with Japan and Korea unlike Ukraine, this is not necessary. surely in the insane world where China attacks Japan, all involved expect a US defense?
In the ‘80s, Democrats told me it was the height of evil for Reagan to put defensive nukes in Europe. They also said it was evil to arm any group that opposed Russian military expansion. The death of communism has produced some wild realignments.
This is the wrong take. Ukraine didn't need nukes, it just needed to be part of NATO. Notice how Russia didn't invade Poland or Estonia. US has clear defensive pacts in place with Korea and Japan. They don't need nukes.
I remember a very famous case where one nation got nukes to defend itself from its nuclear neighbor and it almost started WWIII. Why do you want another missile crisis so bad Noah?
I'm not a fan of the idea of widening the nuclear club, but if it's only option to deter nuclear aggressors, I agree that South Korea, Japan, and Ukraine have a right to obtain this weapon.
Well ,I think Iraq and Afghan should have nukes too ,if some yankees have to think twice before rob them
Absolute brain dead take, go read your history about the US and what happened when they found out Taiwan was trying to develop their own.
Are you advocating for nuclear proliferation? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just clarifying. This logic couldn't be contained, as every non-nulcear prey that you armed to deter a predator will now be perceived as a nuclear predator vis-a-vis non-nuclear rivals, ad infinitum.
The biggest danger in the world today is that the US has nukes but Cuba and Venezuela do not. If Russia had nukes in Cuba and China had nukes in Venezuela the world would be a lot safer from US warmongering
