They just want to trust the leader. Of course the leader can't just be anybody, it has to be someone who projects strength like a head ape would. But as long as that box is checked, that's all they need or want.

Tariffs are a consumption tax. To Americans who prefer to consume less and save, they are a tax cut assuming you would instead raise income tax in order to fund the government.
