The internet told them Europe was a social paradise. Turns out the trains are awful, the health care isn’t free, and people can be really mean. buff.ly/5cLtnha

That's why I like having relatives. Get a lot of exposure to the world. Although, my cousin's pregnancy care seemed on par with the US?
lol they fell for the healthcare meme (I pay ~30% in taxes here and I haven't been able to get an appointment for my thyroid in a year now)

The media could not be played.
Not to dismiss the entire thing - I'm sure there's much truth in there - but the idea that dishwashers and dryers are "luxury items" in the UK is laughable.
I think a lot of Americans genuinely don’t realize just how good they have it. America clearly has problems but they are still in the top 1% in terms of overall quality of life. Coming from the UK, I can tell you that the general attitude is dour and pessimistic and if you
My husband has a coworker (software engineer) in his thirties whose wife "doesn't feel safe in the US", so they're moving to The Netherlands with their baby soon. They just "love it there"! The guy is an absolute douche and hasn't been doing his job for months because he knows
I really want to meet the guy who moved to POLAND bc he thought the culture in America was too right wing
Reminds me of a professor on here posting during Covid how she wished she lived in a country like Canada with socialized healthcare so she could check herself in to a hospital for a "two week preventative treatment" And it was like...lol. lmao, even.
100% chance that the "anti-American sentiment" she experienced was completely harmless and lighthearted banter that she took too seriously. She's just thin-skinned and unfamiliar with British culture. Annie, I know tons of Americans who live in the UK and I've never heard any of
I enjoyed my duty time in Poland and Italy. I would like to visit the UK. But even I could have warned them that the grass isn't greener. In most European countries our US lower class standard is their middle class standard. And no, there 'aint no such thing as free lunch. No
- left winger moves to Poland thinking it’ll be the idyllic European utopia with diversity and equality! Yeah! - moves home after realizing Poland is probably the most normal and “right” a country can be. They hate normal.
I guarantee you that all those redditors hating on people moving back to the US actually live in the US and have never been anywhere else. Anyone who believes living in Europe or anywhere else is better than living in the US, has never been to those places.
People say America has no culture, but that’s because they’ve been conditioned to think Europe is just like us. In reality, a lot of what you take for granted is in fact that American “frontier spirit” at work. Europe is much more set in their ways. They have traditional roots
It took me 4y to get used to how people work here in Europe vs US. My first year here was super frustrating because I wanted to keep working after hours to get shit done and literally everyone left at 5pm sharp.
Every time my British wife and American me go to UK, my wife points to instances and attitudes as the reasons she couldn’t wait to move out of UK.
I would have moved to Germany in a heartbeat 10-15 years ago. Now? Trains are late. Buses are late. Infrastructure is crumbling. Politics are log-jammed. Smelly leftists everywhere. No, thanks.
Yep, as a person who travels around the world for work (and fun just went to Ireland & Scotland last month), this is a common thing in Europe. Most have no idea how well we live in the US and they feel superior while our lifestyles are so much better than theirs.
Poland is largely free from the problems the rest of Europe has inflicted upon themselves But they included Poland with vague criticisms and of course that its “right wing” completely oblivious that’s how they’ve avoided problems.
Moved from the US to avoid ‘right wing populism’ and they went to Poland? They really didn’t do their research very well, did they?
I first landed in America at 18 coming from Northern England. The UK’s landscapes are beautiful but it’s completely downhill aside that, anybody expecting to move from the richest country in the world to England and have their lives improve clearly did no research beforehand!
These are some of the weakest people to exist. Being talked into the US being such a hellscape by the political media apparatus both on broadcast and on socials to the point of relocating your family to Europe only to realize it was all bullshit you were convinced of. Pathetic.
