Decided to launch a Substack because Twitter is too short form for a lot of big idea takes. My first article is on a fair process for the new Maine Democratic Senate primary.

This is the insight I think people are missing. The Platner campaign doesn’t have to be involved, but the democratic will of his voters can be honored by making roughly 72% of a convention delegates be Platner voters, 20% Mills voters, etc so they get to pick his successor.

3/3: the center left/establishment is understandably worried about vetting after Platner. The left is anxious about the will of the voters being overturned.
At its most charitable, both sides have fair perspectives and this process offers a way forward.
I think the strength of the runner ups in the governor race make a caucus or even a mini primary doable. If you give a several day voting window, for instance. Voters will be familiar with most of the most viable platner replacements
