crazy moment in the NY governor debate: Hochul says she wishes she pushed even harder on YIMBY policies, meanwhile, Blakeman literally *brags* about how his NIMBY policies have made housing so expensive

it’s pure rent seeking! and a perfect example of why we need to pass statewide transit-oriented development standards to make Long Island more affordable
A lot of people, especially in the echo chamber of Twitter, cannot fathom that this statement by Blakeman is popular/supported by many people. Most homeowners want to pull up the ladder behind them, with little concern for society.
and those people are diametrically opposed to lowering the cost of living I am very happy that Hochul is on track to win comfortably, pass pro-housing policies, and make New York more affordable
Dumbass. She wanted to put low income housing in our beautiful Nassau County. The people stuck together under Blakeman’s leadership and stopped the socialist idiot. You’re such a moron. You have no clue what YOU are talking about. My $500,000 house in now worth $800,000.
yes please keep telling people how blakeman’s NIMBY policies are making housing unaffordable
This is why the "Dems have ruined blue states" charge is so fucking lame. It's true they haven't been effective enough on deregulating the production of housing. But at least we're seeing progress with Dems. Quite a lot in some cases. MAGA now *BOASTS* about its pro NIMBY stance.
"___ kids in the Bronx who don't even know what computers are..." -- your candidate Broooo r u serious?!?!
Fascinating that you numpties can't see a world where people want their investments to appreciate. If you want cheaper houses deregulate and make construction easier. That knocks 25% off the price right there. Then quit expecting to live in the nicest places. When your earning is
No one that has a house in Nassau will keep it. They’re all waiting til kids get old enough to sell the home for millions and go to Florida. New York as we know it dies. Both of them pursue policies that make it impossible to be a homeowner in New York or even a renter.
Long Island has a culture that we want to keep! YIMBY policies would destroy exactly what makes Long Island such a desirable place to live.
the Housing Compact she put together 4 years ago was amazingly aggressive. And I mean that as a complement. The IBX is gonna the biggest game changer in NYC public transportation in 100 years.
“created wealth” for someone with a $600k home 😭 his entire campaign embodies the coddled upper class of new york, particularly outside of the city, who act like they live in an oppressive regime because they have to pay tax to fund their local schools.
as someone from Nassau I fucking despise Blakeman. The boomers do genuinely think like this meanwhile their kids and grandkids are forced out because they can’t buy a house. The minute they consider building as little as a duplex the rich old people freak tf out.
bragging about making housing unaffordable is a wild campaign strategy. thats not a flex thats a confession.

The next generation Starlink V5 has a smaller form factor and lightweight design with greater power efficiency. With speeds up to 375+ Mbps, Starlink V5 delivers reliable home internet for streaming, video calling, gaming and more. Available in select areas.
If she beats Blakeman next month, Hochul will have no one to thank but Mayor Mamdani & the NYC voters who elected him for saving her twice in one year.
Why do boomers even want more valuable homes? They often don't want to downsize and don't want to move to a different community with cheaper housing, so they don't even really end up accessing all that equity anyway.
Nassau County is pricey because people are willing to pay a premium for safety, cleanliness and good schools. The left would like to make every inch of the world uncomfortable, tense and ugly. They want you to live in a 1 bdrm gray box for the same price as a house on the island
Why can’t the suburbs stay suburban and cities stay urban? Why does everything need to be the same? The whole world doesnt need to live in NY
This is proof of why so-called "blue state policies" don't mean "Democratic policies." Because blue state Republicans are willing and eager participants in negative blue state policies.
There are many ways that official policy creates winners and losers. Real estate like any investment is a gamble. Older more affluent state like NY have entrenched interests and places like Long Island limited land.
In a way hes not wrong, but it shows his bias/who he cares about which is just current homeowners (who are likely older and higher income esp in Nassau) its deff a huge giveaway he doesnt even realize hes saying "Im making some people wealthy as they pull up the ladder" lol
Have you ever been to Nassau county? Where exactly was he supposed to build homes? Should he raze parks to do so? Nassau county is one neighborhood after another. What YOU democrats want to do is knock down houses to build apartment buildings. Sorry but that’s not what
Bottom line: educated income homeowners don’t want the people in their neighborhood who come along with YIMBY policies.
You do not understand that, once upon a time a home was an investment. And THAT is what Blakeman was saying. A home that’s value increased by 200k in just a few years is an investment.
