Productivity gains must be mind blowing to them.
I bet they hate Schumpeter as well.
yet animal populations are decimated and natural areas shrink day by day. funny conservation trick that.
Added to my perma thread on “things are better, actually”

Putting this out here as a sign to tap when folks respond with "things are worse today" or "middle class shrinking" or other wrong ideas they have.
Everyone should internalize and have these charts as core understanding of the world today.

Show moreDegrowth isn't anti-innovation or anti-technology. You're just strawmanning.
The book “limits to Growth” and Al Gore’s “Earth in the Balance” uncategorically denies technology and innovation as a means to escape their secular apocalypse.
Only by putting your faith in government technocrats can we survive.
Yea, right.

And yet Borlaug was an advocate for population control, while Ehrlich wrote with some optimism about the prospects of increased yields from new grain varieties.
People are not the caricatures that your polarizing narrative demands.
I wouldn't be claiming success when these statistics reveal that population growth has indeed outstripped all progress in reducing carbon emissions per person.
You can cry progress all day long, and be right, and still end up with higher CO2 levels in the atmosphere every year.
Simon refused to take a second bet Ehrlich offered him over climate change and some other environmental conditions.
Sure let’s keep the furnaces burning and “innovate” ourselves out of this one…
Degrowthers: We need to learn to consume less resources. No wait, not like that.
...a bit skeptical on the wealth metric, but in terms of technological & medical access, it has been much better in most aspects than otherwise.
Great, but 30 percent fewer emissions is not nearly enough. We need~90% fewer emissions.
Human ingenuity allows scarce (finite) resources to be utilized in innovative (more efficient) ways over time.
The resources of yesterday exist in a different dimension today - just like the interior of Dr Who's Tardis exists in a different dimension.
Incredible that there aren't schools, institutions, buildings, etc from coast to coast named after Borlaug
Degrowthers keep arguing that the emissions have been outsourced to developing countries, though that has been largely debunked.
The problem was never scarcity in itself, but resource distribution. But the point of "degrowth" was always to lower the standard of living of the common man so more of our productivity can be hoarded by the rich
The difficulty with predicting the future is that innovation is almost guaranteed to happen, but you can't predict what the innovation will be or when it will happen.
So it's easier to just draw the bad lines out and be a doomer
and yet they were allowed to implement all of their ideas even though they were wrong look at world wide fertility rates outside of subsidized sub sahara they are going to get what they wanted at the expense of everyone
That doesn't seem to have prevented this. Try recognizing the problem next time.
Not sure what you're crowing about. You seem to be praying to some "Technology God" that will always save us. Always.
You have read ZERO history. ZERO.
As long as you ignore the environmental destruction portion of the ledger this accounting makes a lot of sense.
I think we need to pay less attention to degrowthers. First of all, they’re insane and second of all if it wasn’t created by a Russian op it’s being amplified by one.
Today's average American in any Walmart or public site would be presented as a obese show in a circus in the 50's
Why grow all the time?
How about catch a breather stabilize and perfect for a few years?
Go a graph of global emissions, fucking Moron. USA made its money by enslaving parts of the third world and turning them into blasted hellscapes. Of all the arguments against degrowth. Truly moronic.

I think the basic problem with “young men are becoming more right wing because they’re freaking out over losing the privileges they’ve had forever” analysis is that they are YOUNG—by definition they haven’t lived long enough for that to be the explanation
Sitting and standing all day are both bad, which leaves lying down as the best option, which is what I’ve been saying for years.
There’s a whole contingent of delusional people who think becoming a yacht club waitress is more likely to help you snag a rich husband than going to law school. You hate to see it.

Lower income, uneducated men are strongly opinionated about women going to college.
it is shocking, absolutely shocking, to me that no country in the world has made the connection between americans having nearly entirely unobstructed free speech, and americans also building way more than everyone else combined
