The feedback loop is broken though. โ€œHealthcare CEOs deserve to dieโ€ will get 100k likes. โ€œHealth insurers actually hold costs downโ€ will at best, be ignored, and more likely will get gruesomely ratioed.
Thatโ€™s a tautology: if you are trying to convince people but are finding the going hard, you probably have an inkling that theyโ€™re unpopular positions.
I think a fair amount of this comes from democratic/electiral culture, where having majority support is often equated with being right/just, and pushes people toward bending over backward to argue/believe their view is popular one, rather than just say it's unpopular but right.
It goes beyond that. It is a belief that the unpopular position is so obviously the only moral option, that nobody could ever disagree with you unless they were an absolutely horrible person.
Sometimes, I find what I thought was an unpopular opinion to me was actually quite popular, but I just needed to get out of my bubble. I think some opinions get suppressed within groups because they are unpopular within the loudest subset of that group. Most single issue voters

I don't disagree but I'm still working through this. Take Elon Musk and other people with Asperger's Syndrome. One trait of such people is their inability to cue in on their social surroundings. I agree that it's HARDER if you can't read the room. But if you're RIGHT when

I think the harder problem is there are a LOT of popular policies, minimum wage or tariffs, but they turn unpopular when they are implemented. I believe Trump will be more effective and popular if he does 15% of what campaigned on not 75%.
Yes! I have a handful of opinions which fall very far outside the mainstream and I would categorize as "extreme". I still think I'm mostly right lol, but I totally understand it's a fringe opinion and acknowledge it as such, and don't really expect many people to agree.
Itโ€™s not good to hold unpopular positions that are objectively bad and make the country worse. I hope they continue losing on them
Much of the angst on the trans issue is that so many trans gains have come from the admin state (bureau of prisons, WPATH, the IOC, NCAA) and not legislative bodies. So when there is push back, a common response is โ€œwhy do you care? itโ€™s a tiny group of people.โ€ Itโ€™s cope.
You live a charmed life, mind you it was earned you do work hard. But you lost touch with regular people, who want to just live life. Not forced to believe something, the left Is like a woke religion. Thereโ€™s issues on the right too. But..
Very true. Some Democrats pushing for men in womenโ€™s sports and thinking that isnโ€™t unpopular is a deadweight loss.
Silver is nothing more than an average analyst. There were 7-10 Twitter data guys/girls that I follow who were more precise than he was. Guy is so overrated
If it's a moral issue, then you must stick with it no matter the electoral consequences. The Democrats should continue to stand for biological boys playing in girls sports and trans surgeries for illegal immigrant felons.
Unpopular ideas get forced on people all the time. Most ideas are unpopular, just not enough to make people care enough to do something about it.
Please mention these โ€œunpopularโ€ positions and letโ€™s see the data and find out whether theyโ€™re actually unpopular. Stop lying.

You should be outraged that a โ€œTop 50โ€ list of dangerous homeless people exists. Every person on that list has been arrested dozens of times. Every one of them has attacked strangers. And the city leaves them on the street for you to deal with instead of locking them up.
