Everyone thinks that the way to get into college is to be a favored minority but in my experience the best way to get into college is: attend private schools all your life, have a movie star parent, & get that family friend who happens to be a NYer editor to proofread your essay

The note that I remember that guy gave me was “don’t use the word ‘plethora’” because it sounded like an SAT word lol
This is true. The largest preferences are for what Harvard calls the “Dean’s Interest List.” This is for the children of celebrities, VIPs and donors. Bill Frist Jr got into Princeton with below a 1200 SAT. Al Gore III got into Harvard with a similar record. Jared Kushner
You’re wrong, Ben. The way to get into college is to win your Eastern European country’s academic olympiad as a freshman in high school. Now THAT’s easy.
i don't think trump voters would be surprised to learn the pecking order has nepo babies above minorities
The funny part is that he didn’t get into Columbia where his father was a professor and he tried to game their AA policy.
Anyone can get into a high rated state school now. The university I went to has gone from 15% acceptance rate to 80%. They are selling space and degrees to foreign students . I heard the local food has improved!
Or just get decent scores on your SAT and go to a in-state extension university. You’ll get a better education and meet more interesting people. You’ll can actually afford it, which is a plus.
That is, indeed, the best way to get into college. However, since that is not available to 99.9% of people, the more common way is to be a favored minority.
My dad gave Harvard enough money to name a dorm. After that it was easy for me to go there. I get to sleep in the dorm that has my name on it. How cool is that. I don't really understand what the professors are talking about but the chicks dig me. Who knows why?
I imagine this is what Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lien In is about
Had a friend who didn’t think the documentary Napoleon Dynamite was funny Private high school. And yet there we were, working in the exact same place. Fun to learn this year that David Lynch spent time with buddies exploding things around Boise….

At my kids' elite private high school, the best way was indeed to be a favored minority. The kids with parents from Spain and Portugal did especially well: Hispanics, as did the kids who wrote, "I'm gay" or "I'm trans."
Also big extracurricular bonus points for dancing on burning police cars while wiping your ass with an American flag.
As a fellow nepo baby it’s kind of gross seeing you do this “pick me / I’m one of the good ones” dance for the unwashed masses in the cheap seats. Have some class solidarity, man.
Seems like a great way to get into a college filled with the dumbest and most insufferable people imaginable.
Now imagine if, not satisfied with those advantages plus your dad being a faculty member - you decided to try to game the system & take a seat intended for the systemically disadvantaged. See how that’s a kind of a big deal?
There are over 19 million college students in the United States. It may be difficult to get into a few select schools and disciplines, but most students who want to go to college can. You don't need to be wealthy and you don't need to be a genius.
True story, my child was interviewed at Georgetown by a politician alumni. Didn't get in. The kids daughter did. With lower stats, lower everything. Admissions should all be blind.
Imagine how utterly shitty your application has to be to get rejected when your mom is a famous movie director and your father is a professor at the college you're applying to

Holy shit - Zohran Mamdani claimed to be black in his college application x.com/cremieuxrecuei…
The "So what if Zohran Mamdani appropriated and claimed to be African American to get into college" news cycle is going to be mindblowing.
