Hyundai also equips all their egmp cars (like my car) with 800v charging. I am in out in 15 minutes on a fast charger. Elon is too busy looking for groyper accounts to retweet to update slow charging on his cars.
Good news - Tesla just said on their earnings call that their own battery, the 4680 has the lowest cost per kWh. Thats way more important than 5 min charging which is simply a fuction of power output and battery size.
I remember a long long long time ago in the mid 2000s when the U.S. was the world’s technological leader. Now we’re just focused on trying to bring shoe manufacturing back to the U.S.
Battery manufacturers make more false pre-announcements than Pam Bondi. I imagine that super fast charging batteries will have a shorter life. In any event, Tesla will eventually have this tech.
These types of breakthroughs spur progress and drive constructive competition. It’s good for humanity. Like when Bannister cracked the 4-min mile, and a year later three guys ran sub-four in the same race. It will happen here too. will make it happen.
$ENVX can do it. And $ENVX can do it using high nickel chemistries while the others have to use LFP yet have the same packing efficiency as BYD. ENVX prioritizes smartphones at the moment (higher premium as you ramp up)….but any EV company worth its salt will give them a call.
I have an idea. We could tell them they can make them here.. but they have to share the technology with the government. Then the government can steal the technology and give it to Tesla.
How much does Breaking Points get from the CCP? I used to watch your show every day because I wanted to hear a balanced perspective but now it just feels like I’m watching MSNBC or a Chinese propaganda outlet. So sad.
Our electrical grid is holding us back. Even if we had the charging tech, we couldn’t use it in practical terms with our current restraints. So American companies haven’t pursued it as heavily.
The issue is battery wear and tear from rapid charging, this is a limitation of the chemistries. The charging speed is not a challenge for anyone.

5 mins for topping a tank from empty in an ICE? No way. And Tesla superchargers can charge 150mi in the first 15 mins. And what does charging within 5 mins do to battery's longevity?
I'm a car nerd and do appreciate EV's abilities but my god they're fucking boring. Even 5min charging. I get it that's a huge leap forward for EVs. But I truly could not care less. Idk EVs have more in common with cell phones than traditional cars
Just like Apple, they were never first but always the best. This technology right now is going to have reliability issues for some time. Once the kinks are worked out and the science is understood, others “Tesla” will follow.
It's just hype. There is zero chance anyone is going to build out a usable, very expensive, 1mw charging network for passenger cars.
The entire idea of 5 minute charging is over-rated. When you own EV, you mostly charge at home overnight. When you do roadtrips, taking a rest room/snack break takes 10-15 minutes, which is enough in today's charging speeds to get another 2-3 hours of driving.
Patience. Tesla is on it. They have lowered the cost of their in-house 4680 batteries to the point that it's now their cheapest option, even before considering the impact of tariffs. Tesla is in the process of rolling out their first LFP batteries. Although they started later
They want to get you back into the 3-day traffic jam on a 19-lane highway as quickly as possible
Also, it's completely irrelevant. I've owned an EV for 9 months, driven 20,000+ miles and not once have I had to wait for it to charge. You almost never charge on the road, and if you do, you do something in the meanwhile and it's done before you are.
I question his much they are cooking the battery pack each time they do that. I also question how many chargers are actually capable of pushing that.
China’s 5-minute EV charging leap exposes a brutal truth: While Beijing pours billions into strategic dominance, D.C. drowns in tariff chaos and policy whiplash. The 2025 global tariff rollout—originally meant to reset trade—became a masterclass in dysfunction, with semiconductor
And they have a Thorium reactor looking to be operational by 2030. Meanwhile the West wants to deindustrialize and go net zero. I’ve never seen a civilization willingly commit suicide like this in pursuit of morality.
China has been stealing tech from the US for as long as I've been in the business world (~30 years) and well before that. Turnabout is fair play here, I think.
Imagine being of Indian & Hindu heritage, and continuing to tweet about cars and tariffs days after a devastating terror attack. Maybe if Gaza health ministry publishes the death toll figures his ears will perk up. I can't believe I gave this deracinated cuck money.
Meanwhile the US requires corporations to amortize R&D, pushing tens of thousands of technical workers out of the workforce. #section174
China just delivered 5-minute EV charging. CATL: 520 km (323 mi) in 5 min/BYD: 400 km (248 mi) in 5 min Fastest competitors: a) Tesla (U.S.): ~200 miles in 15 mins/b) Porsche (Germany): ~350 miles in 15 mins/c) Hyundai (South Korea): ~200+ miles in 18–20 mins And then it’s a
We will just use the Chinese playbook and steal the IP. Once it has been figured out elsewhere it will be done here.
Why bother when you can swap batteries in 3 minutes. Without the downside of battery degradation that comes from super fast charging. And having the flexibility to change your battery capacity any time.
There is a third issue We are never going to see a mass build out of megawatt chargers for consumers. How much would it cost to build a ten stall charging station if all ten stations have to deliver a megawatt hour each ?
This is the problem with people who know nothing about technology talking about technology. Even if they can achieve 5 minute charging, it’s not practical for widespread use because of the amperage flow required.
I recognize the importance of gigafast charging as an important step to widespread EV adoption, but it must be said the vast majority of drivers aren't taking daily journeys that would require anything beyond home charging and ranges offered by what's already on the market.
Awesome, we can just steal it from them like they love to do when American companies innovate. No worries!
I’d really love if you/the team would cover the Hamas style terrorist attack in Pahalgam. You guys cover intnl news and this is massive change in the status quo in Kashmir . I hope and will do thorough factual reporting given ISI contacts
Both being Chinese is good news too. The US can choose to access these batteries if it wishes to.
summing up Chinese ev industry, Cadillac level styling , interiors, performance for chevrolet level pricing. Porche level for Volkswagen pricing. Most car brands are cooked if they don't pivot to this model.
But we are ahead of the game is super size drinks and steroidal meats from grassing cows that we feed corn instead of grass. 🙄
Biden spent five billion and erected two charging stations. Talk about that. Who stole those billions Saagar? As always you love to bark up the wrong tree. What a male feminist you've become.
You should prob keep shitting on Trump and tariff policy if this concerned you. He’s the only president to address this issue in our lifetimes. …haven’t listened to or watched your show in weeks as it looks like Krystal names or decides every segment. Call me biased. I just
