I do feel bad for Breed who I think got a raw deal in a lot of ways but Lurie is very impressive

An important thing is he got the police to stop some kind of years-long work to rule strike.

The big question I have about Lurie is how did he end the police work slowdown. Extremely important and unexpected.
She was completely incompetent Even people who worked in her administration believe this to be the case- they say nothing was getting done. Lurie is surely benefitting from some things that are not his doing, but he’s doing a much better job.
No no no no no. London was 1) Extremely beholden to machine interests, and 2) Was not as capable of leadership as was thought. Lurie's doing things that she just could not accomplish.
He's been less effective than Breed so far and has fallen into several traps that she navigated early in her term. Fact is people just wanted a change and they got it. But overall, so far Lurie has been doing a good job in a tough situation.
I voted Breed 1, Lurie 2. I was ok with either of them and pretty much an anyone but Peskin (the NIMBY king) voter.
Best Covid response in America. The worst BoS in human history. And yet… a bit checked out. Once Lurie made it clear he’d be “Breed, but focused” he deserved to win. Toughest 1,2 RCV I’ve ever taken.
the Breed thing is deserved. i was a big fan because her instincts were great on policy but she again and again lost interest and stopped following through. it was so frustrating to watch her various initiatives begin to work and then she just lost interest and things went back.
Breed was less horrible than the narrative and did get things going in a positive way, but only a fraction of what Lurie is doing. He is also far better on social media and as you see in NY, that can go a long way.
It's because he does lots of videos saying the city is good and getting better instead of a bunch of press conferences saying the city is terrible and can't be improved
Unless San Francisco increases housing production the city is going to become a very large version of aspen.
Breed didn’t get a “raw deal.” She was a well-meaning, but cronyist machine politician with zero ability to go against the political grain. Also no leadership skills to speak of.
NO! We need to stop making apologies for officials like Breed. It’s like mayor of Berkeley who failed up to state govt. or Newsom who keeps getting rewarded. More drug camps “homeless”, bad infrastructure, fraud, defund police, legalization of all petty crime, no housing built…
She did herself no favors. Typical blue state machine politics operative with less than zero political principles or beliefs. Lurie seems to have some vision.
