I don't agree with this guy, but the position stated is off-the-shelf realpolitik, of which there have been famous proponents in US government under both parties in my lifetime.

Any nation willing to use force to encapture another is not trustworthy when they do "concessions" towards any other region. The Soviet Union and Germany had a pact prior to WW2, that lasted just a few months.

It's super-easy to negotiate for peace when it's someone else's land you're giving away. The problem is, what they take for "peace" is the equivalent of "surrender". China and Russia have a world view of "what ours is ours, what's yours is up for grabs."
