No one in this administration is willing to have this kind of blunt discussion with Trump. Cohn and Mnuchin both were willing and able and kept his policy decisions within traditional views.
His entire worldview is based on the books he read as a child in the 1950s. Books like “America’s Wonderful Wealth” with jolly workmen, smoke stacked factories, dams making power for cities, tractors in fields, wives baking pies at home with toddlers scampering.
As someone who's done a couple summers in a chinese factory as a student job, I can attest that conditions are extremely grueling even with improved safety standards. The pay is not horrible, but I still won't go back. I’ll take pay cuts for a desk job this summer.
Cohn & Mnuchin would have been a dream team for Trump 2.0. Add Lloyd to Commerce and you’d have the next renaissance
