But Britain is leaving behind English language and America-Canada-Australia plus English speaking India. Sheepherders left not much imprint excepts genetic infusions.
Did the Mongols have any new military technology or were they just really good at using it?
Nah they just adopted equality and anti racism and that’s why they declined… if they stayed racist antisemites who didn’t believe in equality or democracy they would still rule over the world today
Why you’re wrong: UK economy is bigger than ever. Far bigger than at the height of its Empire. That’s the magic of modernity/Industrial Revolution.
Eh Britain may have fallen into decline *relative* to the USA and Asia, but it’s still ahead of most of the rest of Europe - particular on tech where it’s in a strong position.
The Brits were a European power off and on through the Middle Ages
They did rather more than just open some trade routes. Industrial Revolution anyone?
They lasted vastly longer than the Mongols
Don’t think the wool trade is that big of a deal these days.
Whereas Proto-Indo Europeans expanded not once, not twice but thrice and most of the modern world now speaks their languages.
"I wish they would just learn Polish!"
--An old Polish lady talking about her English plumber in 20 years.
I don’t get the Britain hate.
It’s not what it was (America isn’t either) but the third world is still clamoring to get in.
I think you've memed yourself into really overrating the degree of decline the UK is in. The UK has had poor productivity growth for the last 15 years. Germany also had a substantial period of low productivity growth in the 90s and early 2000s. UK has the real incomes as France
Reminds me of that Arab saying, 'my grandfather rode a camel, I drive a car, my son will fly aircraft, his son will ride a camel'. The British, once and future sheep herders.
"Mongol" is such a great historical/biopic/action movie. Extremely underrated. The photography is just out of this world
Is "Sheep herders" some oh so clever American criticism of the British that literally only Americans believe?
Mongols came up at the near-ass end of dozens of horse nomad tribal federations. Joke don't work.
The wool trade between England and Flanders was big business. Add Italian banking and you got this novel system we call 'capitalism'
What's so dysfunctional about sheep-herding? Count me in for the sheep-herding phases of civilisation.
Love Mongolian BBQ.
British BBQ???
Eh, not so much.
Strong men produce weak men. We are now at the stage where we are led by wicked men.
But at least we have nice buildings, rather than fake vulgar ballrooms. Invented most stuff rather than pinched it and provide all citizens with healthcare so they don't have to either die on the streets or file for bankruptcy.
What. Are. You. Talking. About.
Tell me you know nothing about the Steppe confederations without telling me you know NOTHING about the Steppe confederations.

If you don't have any new technology, know nothing about trading, and it is only about having the guts, it is our turn

English have wide range of scientific literature and other literature that can be traced back after millennia. What mongol thing does matter us today ?
Simplistic. Bede? Magna Carta? Shakespeare? Civil war over fundamental rights? All before or at the time England became an empire.
Were the Mongols supposed to have new technology? They had worse armor than the Georgians, worse engineers than China, and couldn’t conquer Hungary because of all the castles
You forgot the last point:
> Complain about immigration
The Mongols as a power declined but they were also absorbed in many parts of the world: India, Russia, China.
Britain maintained relative segregation in its colonies and now they are shooting their own foot using isolationism.
Its Russian made movie. Though director Bodrov was much criticized for choosing Japanese actor to play Temujin
Great Britain went into decline immediately after 'The Goodies' was cancelled. That's when I lost interest anyway.
Internet autist correction time: the Mongols didn't have new military tech - horse archers are at least as old as the Scythians, and other cultures developed recurve bows. It was their forced unity by an organizational genius which led to their conquests. It's leadership.
Yeah I guess >be the one of if not the most centralized + developed state entities anywhere in the world for 500 years doesn't have quite the same ring to it as a bunch of sheep herders.
BE a bunch of European emigrants who systematically destroyed a native civilisation, exterminated their food supply and confined them to the least hospitable reaches of their country......
"Open new global trade routes"
Is that correct? I thought they disrupted the existing ones; someone else created the new ones.
Is this why we are now importing a load of sheep herders from the far reaches of the empire to live in our cities?
5th biggest economy in world, 2nd biggest NATO military, permanent UN Security Council seat, best universities in world, leading cultural exporter, major tech player, most stable democracy in Europe. Not exactly chopped liver.
