I've heard it has gotten a lot better but when I lived there from like 2012 until 2016 it was excessively stabby, filthy(hep c on the sidewalks), and I saw more than one person publicly defecate(more than once on the bart too!). I'm from Hawaii and people just don't crap on
Drones are now stationed on rooftops across San Francisco, ready to launch at the push of a button. Along with license plate readers, theyโ€™ve helped drive this scourge down. If cash bail were reinstated, the problem would likely disappear almost entirely.

A group of brazen robbers stole luxury purses worth $40,000 from a Gucci store in Livermore, police said. Officers later found the group in San Francisco with help from a drone. Story: kron4.com/news/bay-area/  (Video courtesy SFPD)

A number of other items as well, such as recalling their George Soros funded district attorney. Electing more moderates, and implementing technique such as bait vehicles
Likely little to do with drones. SFPD just decided to start doing their jobs again in Sept 2023 and launched "bait cars" and quickly caught the handful of criminals committing all the break-ins.
San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott speaking outdoors, wearing a police uniform with a badge. Several people in suits stand nearby. A headline reads "โ€˜This has to stopโ€™: S.F. police to use new tactic to crack down on car break-ins."
I think this has more to do with the wildcat police strike coming to and end. It's not a tech problem, anyone could catch bipers in an afternoon, cops just didn't have any interest in doing so. Presumably the new mayor was able to force them to do their jobs.
Weโ€™ve had our Priusโ€™ catalytic converter (w/protective cover) stolen 3 times in the past 2 yrs while parked on a safe S.F. street, most recent June. Cost $3.8K to replace each time . Maybe the bad guys calculated the ROI and specialize in cat. Would be great if they catch them
This is really interesting โ€” as is the fact that I see a bunch of articles about how SFPD illegally bypassed state regulations on acquiring drones and that lots of the funds come from a billionaire donor. Which Robocop movie was this?
Didn't we also lock up one really prolific bipping crew that was responsible for a huge number of break-ins?
Yeah it must be the drones Must be drones in Chicago and nationwide too

Arrest, deport and/or incarcerate those responsible for crimes. SF can allow crime or reduce it. Itโ€™s not complicated.
Whose drones? SFPD? I ask because I've read of effective use of drone surveillance footage, to trace crime perps back to their homes.
Data correlates much more heavily with the bait car strings in 2023 than the drones in 2024. But it does still show what targeted intervention can accomplish.
Car break-ins have always seemed utterly cruel and senseless.
