BOMBSHELL: “California’s eco bureaucrats halted a wildfire prevention project near the Pacific Palisades to protect an endangered shrub. … In 2019, the LA Department of Water and Power (LADWP) began replacing nearly 100-year-old power line poles cutting through Topanga State Park, when the project was halted within days by conservationists outraged that federally endangered Braunton’s milkvetch plants had been trampled during the process.”

We have endangered trees here in Florida. The Water Department started a multi-million dollar septic project the other day in my area. They apologized to our HOA's, said they tried to save the 3 trees but they could not and that they had to be removed. The job is critical to the

The irony is that this shrub needs wildfires to propagate. "This plant, like many chaparral species, is fire-adapted and requires wildfire or other disturbance to propagate. The beanlike seeds require scarification to break down their tough seed coats before they can germinate.

I love how THIS is the bombshell. We need a new word for “bombshell”. It’s almost like calling someone racist. It doesn’t carry the weight that it used to
He's famous! I remember when Bruce won the Decathlon, it was awesome. Unfortunately he's gone downhill since then. Media still loves him though.
Did the ecomorons collect, cultivate and replant said endangered plant or did they just file court cases. One action tells you they are serious the other tells you they are frauds.
Interesting fact about the Milkvetch... Fire Dependency: It relies on periodic wildfires for seed germination, but fire suppression policies and altered fire regimes disrupt this natural process.
Yes, protect our forests & natural habitats.. but when humans stopped forest fires that naturally cleaned & revitalized forests for thousands of years in the name of preservation, they did more harm than good. AND.. There is something wrong with the mindset that prioritizes

There are a million stories like these in California. I myself remember when the kangaroo rat prevented people in the inland empire from clearing and plowing empty fields. But all the whackos on this site will say "it's climate change there was nothing we could have done"
But yet they can destroy thousands of Joshua trees in the desert no problem.
Master Gardener here: most of us would consider milkvetch to be a weed, especially because it’s POISONOUS. Congrats to the government idiots that classified it as endangered. You killed people, wiped out a major urban area, and the plants still died. 🙄
The Sierra Club needs to have thousands of civil suits for loss as a result of their lawfare and lobbying efforts filed against it.
A fish and now a shrub along with incompetent leaders led to loss of lives and billions in homes….
David Pluenneke is the botanist who is responsible for stopping the poles from being replaced and now dozens of deaths.
I swear the societal regressives/degrowth people just make this sh*t up as they go along. They see humanity (esp caucasian westerners) as a scourge on the earth. Bet that endangered shrub burned just like the rest of em.

Said plants have been totally destroyed by the fire. Good job eco-idiots.
This may be the moment to take power away from no nothings who control by yelling the loudest. They are not educated, do not think-they “feel”- and they destroy because they lack common sense. They do donate large amounts of money to Democrats, however. . .
There's a long history of this sort of bullshit.

This entire piece from @ForestMaven is remarkable. Under California's state NEPA (CEQA), wildfire mitigation projects must undergo years-long environmental reviews. Newsom's effort to "fast-track" CEQA for forest management flopped – so much so that state reps encouraged

Fricking insanity. Where are the adults in CA government or are they all immature 'adults' that can't see the forest through the trees?
They need to start telling these eco-terrorists to get out there and move, take grafts or in some other way preserve if it’s that damned important. People have to become a priority again.
Not really surprising. These are the most unserious people on the planet. All of their actions are virtue signaling gestures aimed to make themselves feel better with zero focus on their constituents.
Environmentalists run that state. Ask anyone who’s ever been at a military base in CA & couldn’t train bc the environmentalists on base found a purple amole or fairy shrimp in the field you were using. 🤨
You literally can’t make the amount of incompetence up…
This mode of operation is steeped in insanity. At what point do human lives take priority over shrubs? Is safety not a concern anymore? Anybody involved with such poor decision-making needs to be fired immediately. They should not get another cent from the state of California! 🤬
My sister lost her house in the palisades. I pulled title on her house. Interesting thing I found. All homeowners weee assessed an additional property tax to take care of brush abatement. This was done in 2003 and then never again.
