In Norway, lasers are being used to remove sea lice from farmed salmon.
The Stingray Laser System uses cameras to scan the salmon, identify lice, and then deliver a laser pulse to kill them.

Spoke to a salmon farmer who'd been testing these types of systems a few years back - He said it only took a few generations for the lice to become lighter colored and thus harder to spot and therefore the laser to became less efficient as a tool - Cool concept though!
"All I ask for are sharks with frikin' laser beams attached to their heads"
Maybe just let them swim outside of a net and they won’t have as much lice and health issues
Wild salmon are much better tasting, are not fed growth hormones and antibiotics.
Just say "no!" to frankenfish.
This is amazing and very cool - can you share who is making the stingray laser?
This is band aids on cancer.. put this horrible disease spreading industry in closed containments and stop destroying our fjords and rivers.

If this goes long enough, they will evolve laser-proof lice.
Just sayin
Releasing farmed salmon back into the sea and introducing fresh batches from the wild is an interesting proposal, but it comes with several challenges and considerations:
Genetic Diversity and Health: Farmed salmon often have different genetic traits compared to their wild
Someone suggested this at a meeting and people actually listened
Could this be adapted to work on a border wall? Asking for 300 million friends.
That's actually kinda crazy. I can't believe it works under water as I would think water would distort the laser. ??
Bro that’s like if our stop lights shot lasers at us while we sat in our cars at a red light lol…Wild
not 100% effective? There is no reason to eat Farmed Salmon. It's probably worse for you than amount of omega+protein.
Before you know it governments will use tech like this to kill citizens who fall out of line
Make the farms larger and less overpopulated. The owners of the farms are the ones with scum on them.
I'm beginning to understand why whales will be important in the future.
When science isn’t fascinating but bullshit. The lice are a symptom of much bigger issues. But let’s zap the lice with our science minds! Yay! Salmon are a class of fish capable of swimming upstream to spawn. Their health is utterly compromised in these conditions.
fact check this Norwegian fish parasite killing laser please
Looks like a nightclub for fish. But are they old enough to be at the club? They look like they’re still in school.
Ahhhh…
Get it….
School….
Fish….
Sorry.
Wild salmon have sea lice, as many other anglers will testify.
Rarely do you find more than 2 or 3. It's a sign the fish is quite fresh from the sea when you catch it in a river.
Guess which salmon taste the best?
IF THIS WORKS IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR IT TO BE USED IN ALL SEA NET FISH FARMING OF SALMON AND WOULD ELIMINATE THE VAST NUMBERS OF SEA LICE EGGS NOW IN SEA WATERS NEAR FARMS INFECTING WILD FISH ! THEN THEY JUST NEED TO SORT OUT CLEANING UP WASTE COMING OUT AND SMOTHERING THE SEABED
Set up most of the ocean as protected areas, and we wouldn't need this horrible, environmentally indefensible industry.
Never buy farmed salmon!
Soon... more cancerous fish... we just see nature as we percive and try solve based on that limited view
Would it be able to kill Asian/silver carp if it gets turned up a notch?
Ye in norway they have really nice salmon farms but you should see the salmon farms owned by norway in other countries... they are killing everything :(
Better than the chilean industry that pumps them full of antibiotics. Dont buy chilean salmon
what if we took this idea and expanded it. Then put it on all the borders.
