pacific palisades done hong kong or miami style facing the ocean would not look that bad imo
Build it too dense, and it starts to look like Moscow circa 1955. No thank you.
It's worse than bad. It's nuts. Wasting a once in a century chance to make changes that better fit modern patterns of life. All to satisfy a bunch of nanny staters.
โComing from a place of good intentions but taking the path of flawed design and executionโ seems like how we do policy in CA these days.

100% disagree.
This is not about reshaping the landscape to fit a different narrative.
I have little sympathy for supporting rich celebs who "boo hoo" got they houses burnt.
But making it an excuse to turn the area into yet-another urban hellscape isn't the answer either.
Well by not allowing more density these reforms will get less opposition. Probably more opposition to density after the fires.
Houses were build 200 percent bigger after sandy to accommodate multi family units
Wait, we have a housing shortage. Why not get rid of CEQA and CCA permanently?
People should not be forced into higher density but the waivers should allow as high a density as people want to build.
If youโve spent the last week fighting off looters, youโre probably not in the mood for granting greater density. Youโre probably moving right and want to down zone burned areas.
Finance is one of the most complexโand regulatedโindustries in existence. Building a financial system with #NServiceBus, breaking things down using publish/subscribe and sagas, makes it easier to evolve to keep up with new requirementsโฆand new regulations.
These folks donโt want their neighborhoods and city โreimaginedโ, dumb fuck
See for a fuller list of what Newsom should have done rather than essentially saying โletโs just rebuild pretty much the same dangerous stuff we had before the fire.โ
i agree with the premise but isn't it bad to build a bunch of new houses inn the same place a bunch of houses just burned? are fire-resistant structures that much less likely to burn that they would have fared better over the past few days in the same locations?
That only makes sense if it's supported by infrastructure, such as adequate evacuation routes, fire protection zones, etc. Otherwise the next event will be deadlier.
Of course, we SHOULD support it with infrastructure, but that'll be opposed by NIMBYs.
The max insured value of those forced into FAIR wonโt cover the replacement costs of these houses given the materials and structural changes needed/required. Adding density or MF makes no economic sense.
How would they justify the thicket of regulations like environmental and traffic impact reviews that exist for new construction if they just toss that aside for replacement construction? Only way is to allow things to be restored unchanged.
Newsom is opening the debate. Bass' comments suggested a wider geographic application to the rest of the City. Think we're seeing a mindset change among Dems.
matthew building denser housing in an area extremely prone to wildfires is not a good idea, please stop saying it is
If regulations can be removed in an emergency, why are the required in the first place?
No, man. This area should not be developed at all. Can you imagine how many deaths wouldโve occurred if the palisades was full of high rises?
He's also imposing price controls on building supplies, so maybe the structures will be even smaller.
Recent years have seen changes in the Security and GRC landscape - brought on by regulation and legislation updates. With continued advancements in data-driven tech, changes can be expected to continue. Learn more: bit.ly/493RztU?

However I read where after rebuild the govt out there could require tear down or modifications without limits
Newsom signing the death of his 2028 presidential campaign, you love to see it
no this is wrong approach this shouldn't be seen as a free for all he's changing rules to benefit himself we need less homes there more defensible space more water more roads insurance coverage you have to take care of all of those 1st otherwise it will burn again and lives lost
Rezoning is a local LA government issue. In Calif, ornia it has nothing to do with state government.
Iโm sure for the right number a waiver can be found. Whatโs density worth and how can the political process benefit from it?
CEQA already exempts replacing things lost due to disasters, so this was an unnecessary action. But doing what you are asking for would very much NOT be exempt, nor should it be.
Digression but like some states have hurricane shutters maybe CA homes need tiles like spacecraft have that never burn up? Prevention is best but there wouldโve been plenty of time for many houses to put up their fire shutters and build roofs of them.
A little more thought, a little more effort, a little more care. If thereโs a better, more sustainable way to make a shingle, we intend to find it.

Damn, so you want to increase the amount of people that can be trapped inside a wildfire zone?
In the middle on this.
Allow more market rate in urban areas.
But high density shouldn't be forced on residents against their will, especially since "progressive" urbanism brings crime, craziness & dysfunction.
& families need space, not smaller cages to live in.
Honestly I don't know if the place that just burned to the ground and is poorly served by public transportation is where you want to do your net increase in units but I don't agree with that provision either. I'd like to see a 2-year emergency suspension of those regs everywhere.
No. This is our community not yours. Incredibly callous. We are going to rebuild our town.
Matthew, these are real humans who've have lost their California dream home in a country where homeownership is the prosperity gospel that will actually make you wealthier. You're absolutely right, but it sounds like the plot of kids movie,ur the bad guy

Do you think the same for Lanai, Hawaii?
Hah! For the Donor Class, no gag reflex detected! Watch this process unfold and see who has the power and who doesnโt. Popcorn ready..

Maybe he wants to avoid a large net increase in units because that would reduce the property value of Prop 19 beneficiaries that constitute a core political base?
So we're supposed to believe that this is all due to climate change but think it's ideal to rebuild in
1- an area that has a proven track record of high fire risks
2- allow shoreline reconstruction in areas that the supposed warming is going to be underwater in less than a decade
Youโre fueling every conspiracy that this was a deliberate attack on rich suburban whites to fit a housing agenda

Denser without much greater infrastructure to control
fire spread? That equals greater death tolls next
time as emergency evac gets much more difficult.
And there will be a next time.
No. Donโt need more welfare freaks here. Very expensive fire proof housing is preferred.
No more density. Have you ever been to the Palisades? Next think youโll want a subway line.
Every one of this mansions should be 2-4 family structures. Nobody should be able to hog the ocean.
Of course this is a smart move, but seems designed to make sure people never ask why these regulations were there to begin with
Stop building up against natural areas. Stop having 12 children. Drastically cut fossil fuel use. Blame the right wing for seeking $0 in taxation but ample free services like fire fighting and brush clearing.
It is insanity.
#ClimateCatastrophe is here. The road ahead is bleak
Lolol. He knows democrats. High density means poorer brown ppl. The base (the ones who pay for politicians) of the party hate those ppl. Wake up
