The nimbys won, decisively. The millennials were a huge generation and they blocked housing for most of the fertility years. Forget the economy for a second, a lot of nimbys already are asking 'why no grandchildren'. Well your grandchildren went to propping up property values.

". . . half of the present birthrate decline is attributed to housing affordability, and . . . if costs had remained stable since 1990, 13 million more children would have been born through 2020." x.com/deseretmagazin…

In the state I live in, California basically declared war on people who wanted families. Out of my peer group, the vast majority left the state when they had kids because there was nowhere in the Bay Area where they could get a house.
And I know people who did the responsible, 'save for your down payment', and now can't have kids because they're 39 and can't get pregnant. But we prioritized property values , parking and reduced neighborhood traffic. Nimbys got what they wanted.
The millennials blocking housing (and it indeed was them) were not NIMBYs; they were "anti-sprawl" "smart-growth" urbanists.

its crazy how almost every new build in brooklyn is an unlivable shithole and the only buildings worth living in are 100 years old
Its not an exaggeration to say that most blue city leadership would literally sooner watch us descend into fascism than liberalize housing construction

One of the best things you could do to help WI turn blue is build a bunch of apartments in Madison

So this is a good example of why I strongly discourage mob and vigilante justice

The reason it falls flat is because the civil rights tradition ended when Obama bailed out the banks. He traded the moral currency of civil rights to Wall Street. The despair this time isn’t about the right, it’s about having no faith in *anything.*
