1) this is blatantly illegal, Trump has no authority to do this 2) accordingly, the MTA should continue the congestion relief zone 3) Trump wants to destroy the MTA and force New Yorkers to be stuck in traffic 4) i am working with local organizers on a protest, stay tuned

UPDATE: the MTA has already filed a lawsuit to ensure congestion pricing can continue and Trump’s illegal order is ignored

LMFAO the letter from the Trump administration gets the acronym for the MTA wrong. It’s the Metropolitan TRANSPORTATION Authority, not “transit authority” perfect example of why you don’t get a washed up reality TV star to oversee the country’s transportation network.

you live in Arkansas and have probably never taken a train in your entire life. sit this one out, randy
“Blatantly??” The VPPP is run by the federal government and affects federal roads. This is a PILOT program, not a permanent tax, and the federal government has FULL DISCRETION of who can, and who cannot, participate. This program requires a balance of options so low-income

It's probably not illegal. If Hochul had restricted congestion tolls to intrastate crossings only, the federal government wouldn't have stepped in. However, by including the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, she involved federal jurisdiction.
No no. Interstate Commerce Clause. Federal Law is Supreme on these issues. Federal law for decades. Damn you Dems have never found a tax you don’t like.
IF he has no authority to do it, then there's nothing to worry about. Surely our judicial checks and balances will correct the wrong.
1. you are a fascist 2. the overwhelming majority of working people take transit into Manhattan which will be defunded now
The Federal Government isn't required to fund your programs. But, I for one LOVE this tax. It keeps all the peasants off the road, and it's nice and clear for me!
The letter cites all the applicable statutes. And it appears the statutes DO give the Trump Administration authority to revoke the approval. The solution to this is not to take federal highway money. Then you can do whatever you want, withing the laws of your state. Federal

The federal government has authority (and superiority) on all interstate signed highways and any road funded by the federal government. If you don’t like it, stop taking federal money for your roads. But virtually all roads in America are subject to federal control because

The VPPP agreement is a one time permit and cannot be capriciously terminated after the fact. It’s like if you got permit approval to build a house and then the new mayor said you had to tear the house down after it had already been built legally.
He is the President of New York and the other 49 states. What do you mean when you say he can't do that? He is to protect the people in all forms. Taxation is illegal.
Well since this congestion pricing did REQUIRE approval by the Department of Transportation via The Federal Highway Administration. The government can in fact rescind its approval. Just like the Keystone Pipe line required approval and then its approval was revoked
Cry me a river.

Schools have spent nearly $200B of COVID-Relief funds with little oversight or impact on students. $393K to rent out a Major League Baseball stadium, $86K in Caesars Palace hotel rooms, $60k in swimming pool passes, and even an ice cream truck. All of this money was drawn with

Damn. There are some really miserable and deeply lost people in these replies. Anyway, can someone just remind Trump (and ) that this allows him to get around Manhattan a lot faster? That’s all it’ll take.
If activist judges can decree things (like a king) that make their targets have to spend copious amounts of $$ to prove their legality, I'm guessing you'll have to spend $$ to prove it's illegal.
Let's discuss Wickard v. Filburn. Let's discuss the original intent of the commerce clause. It would seem FDR era unconstitutional expansion of the federal government's scope and authority is gonna be problematic for you. Intrastate roads are closer to the original definition

Lol everyone who's lived in NYC knows what's really going on here. MTA's stranglehold on NY transportation has been going on for too long.
He absolutely does have the authority to do this. And he made a great point too. The original intent was to reduce congestion. But then NY blatantly state they are implementing the toll in order to fix the MTA. So that pretense, and the fact it’s a pilot program, gives him all

I’m sure you’ll get lots of people who want to protest for the privilege of paying more money to their government.
Compromise: The federal government implements a $9 toll, uses the money for federal highway projects. All the many benefits of congestion pricing, but money helps drivers who pay the toll instead of the incompetent MTA.
3) Trump wants to destroy the MTA and force New Yorkers to be stuck in traffic 4) i am working with local organizers on a protest, stay tuned Make sure your protest stays on the sidewalks and does not add to the congestion Also don’t take public transportation as you’ll add

It's funny how people always say we can't have private roads because those greedy capitalists would charge people extra money to use them. And then we realize it's all just projection from people like you.
