The question is, will people believe him outside of California? He has a lot of baggage. The failure to reduce homelessness comes to mind.
“Leaning into hardcore partisanship while moving to the center on certain policy issues” What do you mean by this? This seems inherently oxymoronic
His embrace of abundance is refreshing and I think it’s not centrist. It gets at the economic housing stranglehold in many places that needs to change for Democrats to have a chance with working class folks. Building segregated non profit / govt housing is on a small pat of the
This strategy is a double-edged sword. It risks being seen as an attempt to look good on both the right and the left, and being criticized on both sides as "opportunistic" and "lacking conviction. In particular, his attempts at podcasts are viewed coldly by some as "just a
He has good hair. But publicly failed at his job. Can not speak a single sentence without lying. And who can forget his unmasked lunch at the $300 a plate lunch at the French Laundry while he was prohibiting children from going to school. He is a disgusting man.
Even the weakest of mind can smell his inauthenticity, a trait that has gone out of fashion for now.
Except for maybe the nuances involved with reducing parental rights Might be a non-starter for most of the country 🤔 And, his total ineptitude in handling just about everything
Yeah but he’s just not good at it. He’s an empty suit, and that becomes more obvious every time he tries to adopt some new persona.
He’s an imbecile. He oversaw the destruction of beautiful SF, turning it into an unaffordable cesspool. Then he moved on & did the same to the State of CA. I’ve lived in various cities in CA for more than three decades & I can’t name a single person I know who supports him.
gavin doesn't govern. he appeases his donors and loyalists. can you name one piece of legislation that he has signed that has done anything to help the avg person in california? no. you can't. he would have no problem ending the constitution and ruling us a communist dictator.
Has losing all the friends you have, who are smart, been worth it for you? All to generate absolute drivel and be wrong, with a strong and permanent record about absolutely everything?
Incompetence at running California won’t hurt Newsom in the primaries, but will sink him in the general election.
If he wants to spend his time running for President then he should resign as Governor. We’ve got big issues facing our state and an absent leader should not be acceptable.
The damage has already been done. Every “conspiracy” about the palisades rebuild has been true so far, that alone is enough to kill any chance. And there’s a long list of other stuff.
His Steve Harrington energy will take Newsom pretty far— has taken him pretty far.

Clear as in they don’t like her? I’m kind of hoping Newsom jumps in. He’s a douchebag, sure, but that Steve Harrington energy can take you pretty far in this country.
9 months ago I completely agreed with this. But his defense of prog values, the CA experience and economy, while questioning unchecked liberalism is impressive. He uses his platform very effectively, to the point it appears Trump doesn’t want to engage. Trump loses head to head.
What elected position has he held where his constituents were better off after his term? Are California or SF in better shape when he assumed office, or worse?
I thought the same (and his communication team is brilliant!) but, hey, it’s still Gavin Newsom and the Dems have way better! (Not talking about AOC by the way)
He seems to be filling a void among Democrats, by showing he has the belly for a fight. Yes, there are plenty of places to attack his record in CA. But if it’s him vs. JD, it’s basically “pick your opportunist.”
Agree completely. I don’t know if he’s electable nationally, but hopefully those that are are paying attention and learning how he does it.
If anything, Newsom has stood in the way of the progressive looneyness in the California legislature. Right now, the real appetite from Democrats is for a fighter, but not someone promising the revolution of the proletariat, and Newsom is that guy.
