I wonder if this may be a case of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good--given that income segregation in housing has downsides apart from affordability issues, and that the best ways of tackling both are politically untenable in some areas.

Every such "inclusionary" or "affordable" government regulation should be scrutinized to see whether it can actually work in a market economy. Because most will not, yet allow politicians to pretend they're helping when they actually make it worse.
