Filibuster gone, Democrats get to complain about Rs killing it and then also govern more effectively next time they're in power. (This is not what Schumer is aiming for but it would be good)

Thought experiment--what is the best imaginable scenario for Schumer here? Put on the rosiest glasses. How does he end up in better standing than when he started?

Nope you raise a point of order that the cloture threshold should be 50+1 for this vote, the chair rules against you and then you motion to appeal the ruling of the chair. This is a non-debatable notion so it immediately goes to a vote at 50+1. If successful it becomes precedent
That's what I thought too. Worth holding out just to weaken support of the silent filibuster. Would be very bad in the short term but it's a necessary sacrifice for the long-term greater good.

Republicans would have a year of passing legislation. They would want it to happen in a March shutdown. They should aim for a 4 month CR.
Far better (and I know this isn’t the question) would be somehow this happening in like. October 2026 instead, so the filibuster falls and then the Dems immediately take the house which would limit the short term damage as much as possible.
A few more 55-45 votes and the pressure likely shifts to Thune to either get rid of or move the threshold down (60 to 55) on the filibuster. To achieve this no other Dem can switch sides though.
They won't get rid of it completely even to get out of this. They'll just change the rules to say you can't filibuster a clean CR.
Republicans won’t get rid of the filibuster because they want to cut spending (not ICE or their pet projects, I concede). A simple majority of Democrats would not continue current spending levels, they would dramatically expand federal spending.
Is there something wrong with you? Democrats shutting down the government is a gift to the biggest Republican bomb throwers. They are happy to keep it shut over demands to find healthcare for illegals.
Dem senators depend on the filibuster, far more than the GOP. It's what allows them to promise donors endless neoliberal globalism and then promise voters a good future for America's working families and gives them an excuse never to deliver anything for workers.
Eroding the filibuster on legislation is considered ‘good’ to you? Two-party system politics is choking the Republic to death…
Won't they use the end of the filibuster to do a bunch of stuff to help them win in 2026. Like ban vote by mail, voting where you go to college and other such nonsense?
