Think he just wants to be president one day and being sec of state makes you seem more important right? You're in the news meeting foreign leaders discussing wars compared to being 1 of 100 senators.
Marco Rubio is doing a hellava job. He is the exact opposite of what Tony Blinken brought to the Global stage. We are lucky to have such a strong leader representing the United States in our State Department.

I think it's a 2028 play but also a sincere desire to serve as a counterbalance to the isolationist types. I feel a little bad for him tbh
I keep thinking of a quote from "A Man For All Seasons": "It profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world. But for Wales???" A lot of people have sold their souls for very little.
I think the calculation is that JD Vance does not have the political skill to succeed Trump, so there is an opening for Rubio
Especially when each of these cabinet officials have a White House stooge and minder as part of their front office. Reminds me of the Communist Party Member on the sub in The Hunt for Red October.
Yes, shook the hand, got the position. Didn’t think about the first term with trump and everyone that was fired. History does repeat itself 🤷🏻‍♀️
I said exactly this when he was nominated for Sec of State. It made no sense. The only reasonable conclusion I reached was that he was probably just tired of being a senator.

It's not as if anyone could accuse Rubio of being uninformed or naive about his new Boss, either. He's just... broken.

Perhaps Trump may have specifically wanted him in that role to either use or diminish him and that he was threatened to push him into it?
Won’t be the first time he has done this for Trump. And outside of the Ukraine/Russia mess, he has probably gotten Trump closer to his views than not. But here he is just a puppet.
With his zombie stares, jet-lagged self-presentation, Rubio has gone from Stockholm Syndrome victim to a cipher untethered from all prior core values, a cloned bot-like emissary from Mar a Lago Ville, devoid of genuine commitment. Wait til Putin makes him water (bottle) boy.
He could choose to publicly oppose Trump (before getting fired), but I doubt he has the courage. He knows what he signed up for or at least has no excuse for not knowing
Examine his voting record. He has no defining policy, no impassioned position that produced a public profile. He's a fairly charismatic young man who ascended in the one state where he checks multiple boxes. Yet he's often been tongue-tied and antsy; how he's merely catatonic.
Probably believed he could be the grownup in the room. Mistake was not realizing it’s a room of hyenas and there is no way to be a grownup human in a room of hyenas.
I know lawyers in Florida who have known him for a long time. They always told me that he is not a smart man.
Lots of interesting choices. If you're as rich as some of these guys are, why take a job in the cabinet, knowing who Trump is, to just be a sycophant. If you're "screw you" rich, the fun would be saying "screw you" not "correct as usual, your majesty!".
Well, that's what he deserves if he thinks trump has any loyalty to anyone other than himself.
It's schadenfreudelicious that Lil Marco's uncontrollable ambition is going to be what fucks him over. #FelonDiaperDonOLD WILL throw him under the bus as is his wont, and Rubio will be fucked and without any supporters. He won't get the (R) FL Gov nod, either, as Byron Donald .
Atlas: “Allowing boys in girls locker rooms is one of the most repulsive examples of failed leadership. The lack of not just common sense but courage to say what everyone knows—it's an invasion of privacy. I can't imagine any father wants their daughter in a dressing room w/ men”
Probably giving up any pretentious to a Presidential run. After Trump is done with him, MAGAs won't vote for him, and neither would conservatives (if any remained in the GOP).
oh, but he can retire with an even bigger pension, and he can write some books and probably go around and speak for 6 figures per. . Other than that he’s probably living in a state of terror.
Rubio has always struck me as one of the dumbest people in the Senate (ideology completely aside) so appointing him Sec of State was… a pretty out-there call even for Trump.
because Putin told him to bring into his cabinet all of the anti-Russia Congress people so Trump can then turn around and fire them and remove them from politics. Much faster than waiting for them to get voted out, if ever.
If by interesting you mean dumb, I agree. How did being a member of Trump's first administration work out for people like Mike Pence? Trump is the Dan Snyder of Presidents. The reverse carwash. People that work for him come out dirtier than when they entered. Rubio is doomed.
Being in the repub senate now is not super cushy either. You have to bite your tongue and vote for the most corrupt and incompetent cabinet. And abdicate part of your power regarding gov spending
it was truly dumb as shit from his part. he was going to chair important committees. I hope he gets fired "like a dog" soon so I can have a good laugh at his expense
You could just post "i hate trump and i want him to fail" every day instead of whatever all this oblique whineposting is and itd be easier to enjoy for everyone.
You're such a doofus, Matthew. Secretary of State is a classic position used to position for a POTUS run. It's what Hillary Clinton did. And would you like to put some money behind Rubio being swiftly fired? How much?
Then he must be an idiot. Anyone with half a brain could see that would be at risk of being fired. Then Trump could arrange for a loyalist to take his Senate seat.
He’s not independently wealthy and he’s not corrupt… so a former SoS makes a lot more from private equity than former Senator.
