Democrats are actually pro-nuclear. But Republicans think they're anti-nuclear, because Republicans associate Democrats with the leftist extremists who actually spend all their time fighting against Democrats.

Democrats running for Senate are embracing nuclear. After @RubenGallego and @ElissaSlotkin namechecked atomic energy during debates, I talked to @DebbieforFL and @ColinAllredTX who both told me they support building more reactors. It's a shift for Dems. huffpost.com/entry/democrat

It always struck me as odd that the left opposed nuclear in Australia and remains against to my knowledge. With good industrial policy, Australia could have been a leader in energy - nuclear, gas, even add solar for that matter. For the nuclear, this could extend to waste

This, except replace "Republicans" with, "everyone, including Democrats about other Democrats whom they've never met but assume are legion." When all the media does is search high and low for the latest dumb elite college student, we assume the world is full of those people.
lol. I guess I’m a lefty extremist on this issue. I also don’t like the various catastrophic meltdowns. I’m worried about Diablo Canyon getting hit by an earthquake or a Tsunami, and I’m worried about Zaporizhzhia getting set off by the Russians to punish Ukraine.

One must wonder why anyone fawns over new nuclear when it takes 12-23 y from plan to operation worldwide & 17-23 y in Europe+NAm; costs 3-8x new solar+wind; Emits 9-37x CO2 emissions v wind; & has 4 energy security probs. Nuclear getting fresh look apnews.com/article/nuclea

no, democrats are not actually pro nuclear. it's been decades of sabotage and obstruction.
Republicans have been the bigger backers but Dems have caught up and have more incentive to push for it. The alternative to nuclear is gas. Wind/solar can’t run a grid. Now that democrats are seeing this, they realize that the energy transitions success will be all about nuclear.
Republicans are pretty explicitly anti-nuclear these days, especially given that they're elevating anti-nuclear kooks like RFK Jr to the top of their messaging strategy.
You can also replace “nuclear” with essentially any GOP talking point Works in the other direction too, swap parties and the pattern holds We’re a centrist nation That gets lost in political campaigns, mainstream media, X, TikTok, FB
i very badly want you to be right about this, noah, but in my (admittedly anecdotal perception/biased circle of friends), dems seem much more skeptical than republicans about nuclear power. is there good polling on how dem voters line up on this issue?
So much truth here, Republicans think Democrats are the leftists, but the leftist hate Democrats as much as any MAGA ever has and no matter what any Democrat has ever done policy wise no leftist has ever been appeased or started to work with the Democrats
Democrats were generally pro-nuclear until Three Mile Island and divided on the subject afterwards. We've been mostly pro-nuclear since climate change became a major issue. 11 new reactors were licensed during the Obama administration. Only 2 were built and operate now, ...
Nuclear is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It's time for a bipartisan push to invest in this clean, reliable energy source - no more false narratives about being "pro" or "anti" nuclear. Let's get real about our energy future.
Diablo Canyon nuclear plant (CA) closed because its power prices in recent years have exceeded those of solar or even natural gas. California has a moratorium on new nuclear plants until a solution is found for radioactive waste. Just an fyi
I would have to have what is pro nuclear vs anti nuclear. The technology is fine, however an American capitalism with the technology creates mass amounts of risk, we can’t even get listeria free meat. A MAGA controlled DOE or a Musk CEO of a plant would be disastrous.
Well, they are now that it’s bleedingly obvious to all but the most lobotomized leftist that “net zero” is a fantasy and only nuclear has a chance of reducing the world’s dependence on fossil fuels, at least over the next 25-30 years. Took them a long time and a lot of waste to

Republicans also associate democrats with empowering rule by diktat bureaucrats who make innovations like nuclear energy impossible to implement. The test is not if you support nuclear in theory but how hard are you willing to fight to make regulations that allow it
Everybody is pro “us” having nukes… not so much the other guys. That said, Nukes are nothing but mindfucks. Some dude in an Iranian lab is already making COVID/Ebola 20. I fear that a lot more.
The Dems ‘pro-environment’ arm has always (ironically) been anti-nuclear. They still are.
The association would be less convincing if Democrats hadn’t spent the last 15 years actively seeking common ground with left-wing activists under the “big tent” strategy.
I thought I was done with politics for good. But I've seen what the Democrats have done to our country. I'm running for US Senate in the most hotly contested race in the country. Will you chip in now?
If democrats were pro-nuclear then they would get shoulder to shoulder with republicans to deregulate nuclear energy production. Yet they never do. Why do you think that is?
I'm gonna vote like the Democratic party is led by Brandon Johnson until national Republicans get the power to force this state right
