In some areas, I think Biden has been too indulgent of protectionists.
But these moves against Chinese hardware and software in vehicles strikes me as the kind of targeted, specific measure with a clear national security rationale that makes sense.

I haven't finished reviewing the NPRM, but it's notable that BIS rejected a BS claim about lidar sensors that was motivated solely by lobbying from one U.S. manufacturer:

China is shockingly ahead when it comes to R&D into EVs and deployment of software based features. The U.S. has become so consumed with using data to drive revenue streams we've become fat and lazy. No king rules forever.
Seems like this idea that China "could" do something with the supply chain fear we've had for a while now has more to do with what the US has done or would do instead of what china has done. This really says a lot more about us than China.
